NSA data mining program probably unconstitutional, judge says

01:39
Ever since the USA PATRIOT Act gave the federal government broad powers to snoop on its own citizens, attempts to curtail domestic spying have gotten nowhere. We always kinda suspected the government would do some spying on the average citizen in the name of protecting the peace after 9/11, but thanks to Edward Snowden, the extent to which the NSA has gone to cast its peepers into everything we do is at Orwellian levels. And while they chipped away at our privacy, they apparently broke a few off for the justice system, too. Any type of legal actions brought about to curtail their powers has been litigated out of existence, put on hold without a trial date, or propped up by an outdated court precedent — namely Smith vs Maryland (1979) — that has nothing to do with the internet age. Today, however, Judge Richard J. Leon ruled in a civil lawsuit brought by Larry Klayman that the NSA program of spying indiscriminately by using telephone metadata "is likely unconstitutional." He placed a temporary injunction on the practice until a final ruling can be determined. This is important because it marks the first time a sitting judge has gone against the precedent set forth in Smith vs Maryland which says it's OK for entities to use telephone billing equipment in a phone company's central offices to record the numbers and call lengths that a person calls without their knowledge, thereby circumventing the Fourth Amendment and the need to obtain a search warrant beforehand. In this age of smartphones and constant connections to the internet and such, this meant the NSA could potentially hide behind Smith vs Maryland and use your internet service provider's equipment in their offices to monitor all your data without your knowledge. The Silicon Valley tech giants aren't happy about this one bit — they know a happy customer is one who expects a reasonable about of privacy with their emails, photo and social media accounts. Google, Microsoft, AOL, Apple, Yahoo, etc have formed a 40-member coalition to request more transparency, and President Obama is heading to California to meet with the heads of the social media companies to mend fences. Will he be successful, and can he reassure them (and us) that the mighty Eye of Zardon isn't all up in our emails and IMs? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daily videos brought to you by THE Taiwanese Animators behind the infamous Tiger Woods animation. Collect enough gold quick enough to reach the next level. The Adobe Flash Player is freeware software for viewing multimedia, executing Rich Internet Applications, and streaming video and audio, content created on the Adobe Flash platform. Flash Player can run from a web browser (as a browser plug-in) or on supported mobile devices, but there also exist versions running directly on an operating system intended both for regular users and content developers, denoted with the Projector (or Standalone) and Debugger name suffixes, respectively. Flash Player runs SWF files that can be created by the Adobe Flash Professional authoring tool, by Adobe Flex or by a number of other Macromedia and third party tools. Flash Player was created by Macromedia and now developed and distributed by Adobe Systems after its acquisition. Flash Player supports vector and raster graphics, 3D graphics, an embedded scripting language called ActionScript executed in ActionScript Virtual Machine, and streaming of video and audio. ActionScript is based on ECMAScript, and supports object-oriented code, and may be compared to JavaScript. Flash Player has a wide user base, with over 90% penetration on internet connected personal computers, and is a common format for games, animations, and GUIs embedded into web pages. Adobe Systems, the developer of Adobe Flash Player, states that more than 400 million of total more than 1 billion connected desktops update to the new version of Flash Player within six weeks of release. Flash Player can be downloaded for free and its plug-in version is available for recent versions of web browsers (such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari) on selected platforms. Google Chrome distribution comes bundled with the sandboxed Adobe Flash plug-in and will continue to support the plug-in in Windows 8 Metro mode. Each version of Adobe Flash Player is backwards-compatible Adobe Flash Player is a runtime that executes and displays content from a provided SWF file, although it has no in-built features to modify the SWF file at runtime. It can execute software written in the ActionScript programming language which enables the runtime manipulation of text, data, vector graphics, raster graphics, sound and video. The player can also access certain connected hardware devices, including web cameras and microphones, after permission for the same has been granted by the user. Flash Player is used internally by the Adobe Integrated Runtime (Adobe AIR), in order to provide a cross-platform runtime environment for desktop applications and mobile applications. Adobe AIR supports installable applications on Windows, Linux, Mac OS, and some mobile operating systems such as iOS and Android. Flash applications must specifically be built for the Adobe AIR runtime in order to utilize additional features provided, such as file system integration, native client extensions, native window/screen integration, taskbar/dock integration, and hardware integration with connected Accelerometer and GPS devices. SWF: The specification for the SWF file format was published by Adobe, enabling the development of the SWX Format project, which utilized the SWF file format and AMF as a means for Flash applications to exchange data with server side applications. The SWX system stores data as standard SWF bytecode which is automatically interpreted by Flash Player. Another open-source project, SWXml allows Flash applications to load XML files as native ActionScript objects without any client-side XML parsing, by converting XML files to SWF/AMF on the server. Adobe developed the Flash Runtime C++ (also known as "FlasCC"), that cross-compiles C/C++ code to run within the Flash Player, using LLVM and GCC as compiler backends, and high-performance memory-access opcodes in the Flash Player (known as "Domain Memory") to work with in-memory data quickly. FlasCC is targeted toward the game development industry, and includes tools for building, testing, and debugging C/C++ projects in Flash Player. FlasCC also uses the GPU-based 3D rendering acceleration present in Flash Player 11 (known as "Stage3D"), and when used in combination with Domain Memory, form the Premium Features for Flash Player (also known as "XC APIs"). The Premium Features must be licensed for use and publishers must pay royalties to Adobe for use of the same. Adobe also ported OpenGL for use within Flash Player Stage3D and released it as an open-source project in 2012. Frederico Custodio Ribeiro

Websites for Electricians - Sapphire Trade Services by Tradie Web Guys

04:45
Tradie Web Guys specialise in creating websites for electricians. This website build case study is from an electrical company based in Sydney’s West. - Why Sapphire Trade Services needed a new website for their electrical business As a relatively young business, Sapphirte Service had initially tried to save some costs by creating their own website. To their credit, they had done a great job, however they realised that in order to really move ahead, they were going to require a website that offered them more flexibility and scalability. Chris saw Matt present in Las Vegas and upon returning to Australia, they connected and engaged Tradie Web Guys to see if and how they may be able to assist. - Sapphire Services Electrical and Plumbing website brief Sapphire Services are an electrical and plumbing company located in Sydney’s Western Suburbs. Owned and run by Chris and his wife Emma, they wanted a product that put them back in control of their content and marketing. Also, because Sapphire Services carry out some really interesting and unique projects, they wanted a place that enabled them to showcase their work in a professional spotlight. - Project Specifications The clients had built their previous website using WIX, which was a great solution to get them started, however it lacked a lot of functionality required in a modern website. For that reason, we built their new site Wordpress, using some plugins and themes they would need. They wanted a website that they could easily update with project galleries and content. The wanted to join our care plan, so we could manage and keep it running optimally. - Project obstacles Websites for electricians are typically quite straightforward, as for the better part they don’t need lots of technical requirements. The main challenge we faced with this site was making sure the colour scheme worked as they have quite bright colours. We didn’t want to make the site too much like a glowing neon sign, so we had to make sure that it had a good mix of white and the brand colours. - Project Duration From start to finish, the Sapphire Services website rebuild only took Tradie Web Guys just under three weeks. Chris and Emma were fantastic in getting us the information we required and they were very helpful with any queries the development team might have had. - After Snapshot The finished product for Sapphire Services website was a great success. Within days, Emma was following our course on how to create SEO friendly content which led to them adding new pages and amending the content on their new site. We were very impressed with how quickly they took to firstly learning and secondly implementing what they’ve learned. They’re loving the look and feel of their new site and their loving being able to get in and make changes at their own discretion (which they could not do previously). - Testimonial Sapphire Services are an electrical and plumbing service provider based in Sydney, Australia. Our old website was hard to use and it didn’t allow us to make changes as we saw fit. We wanted a website that we could add content to and update. Tradie Web Guys built a great website for us in record time, with no fuss. I’d recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their website. Emma Reece

PixelBit Project - The unified gaming currency - Advertising commercial

00:33
PIXELBIT (PXB Token) is a dedicated cryptocurrency based on the Ethereum blockchain that allows gamers and game developers to earn passive income while creating or playing games. ►https://pixelbit.cc/ The revolutionary PixelBit gaming currency allows a seamless integration to the top platforms for game design such as Unity and Unreal About PixelBit: It is our goal to build an innovative system that not only incentivises game developers to implement, but also provides tangible, real- world rewards to gamers playing PXB-enabled games. By both giving gamers the ability to earn currency during gameplay a well as directly allowing them to spend that currency for in-game rewards and additional content, we aim to create a living, economically sound ecosystem that makes gaming even more lucrative, enjoyable and worthwhile. The major problem which most blockchain-based projects in the gaming industry are facing is its incorporation into existing code and their restrictions to certain apps and platforms. PIXELBIT is designed by game developers, with game developers in mind, offering instant, cost-effective real-money gaming to players and developers. We designed PIXELBIT from the ground up for maximum cross-platform interoperability and providing a set of intuitive and easy to use tools for developers. While generally being based on the Ethereum (ERC20 token) system and utilizing it’s blockchain, PIXELBIT offers a few unique properties relevant to the gaming market. ✔ In-game reward system similar to trophies/ achievements on certain platforms. Gamers will be able to earn actual digital currency by completing certain tasks in game. ✔ APIs for game developers and publishers tailored towards certain third-party game engines like Unity, Unreal, etc. as well as custom solutions. → Allow the implementation of both the mining process as well as payments and transactions into common third-party game engines and custom solutions. → Allow for game developers and publishers to set up a dynamically adapting pricing system that constantly monitors PXB value and adjusts the pricing for digital items to the current market value, thus offering continuity and predictability to customers. → Our back end will handle the heavy lifting, processing and verifying transactions and providing a reliable backbone. ✔ P2P trading mechanisms for players → Allow the direct trade of additional content such as skins, cosmetic assets and the like directly using the PXB system. → Allow circumvention of third-party marketplaces and gambling sites → Unified currency and an open, cross-platform marketplace. ✔ Intuitive tools for game developers and publishers to make it almost allowing a super-easy implementation of our systems, allowing for virtually immediate revenue generation. About the ICO: In order to give early adopters an easy opportunity to get into PixelBit as well as provide timeframes for in-game implementation, we are planning a staggered release of initial PXB supplies. While the total stock of PXB tokens will be fixed at 100.000.000 PXB and will be mainly available through the in-game APIs, we will sell certain amounts on public exchanges. Primitive Technology: Forge Blower

04:32
I invented the Bow Blower, a combination of the bow drill and forge blower to make a device that can force air into a fire while being easy to construct from commonly occurring natural materials using only primitive technology. I began by fanning a fire with a piece of bark to increase its temperature. It is this basic principle I improved on throughout the project. Next, I made a rotary fan from two pieces of bark that slot together at right angles to each other to form a simple 4 bladed paddle wheel about 20 cm in diameter and 5 cm tall. The blades of the fan were not angled and were designed only to throw air outwards away from the axle when spun. The rotor of the fan was made by splitting a stick two ways so it formed 4 prongs. The fan was then inserted into the prongs and the end lashed to hold it in place. Spinning the fan rotor back and forth between the palms of the hands fanned the fire. But only some of the wind generated by the fan reached the fire. The rest of it was blowing in other directions, effectively being wasted. So I built a fan housing from unfired clay to direct the air flow into the fire. This was basically an upturned pot with a hole in the top, a spout coming out of the side. The housing was about 25 cm wide and 8 cm tall. The hole in the top and the spout were both about 6 cm in diameter so that the air coming in roughly equalled the air coming out. The base of the fan rotor sat in a wooden socket placed in the ground to make it spin easier and the top of the rotor protruded from the hole in the top of the housing. Now when the fan spun, air entered the hole in the top of the housing and exited the spout in the side. Importantly, it doesn’t matter which way the fan spins, air always goes into the inlet and out the spout. Air is thrown out towards the walls of the housing and can only leave through the spout while the vacuum in the centre sucks new air into the housing through the inlet. A separate clay pipe called a tuyere was made to fit over the spout to direct air into the coals. This was done because the pipe that touches the fire can melt away so it’s better to make this part replaceable. Instead of making a large wheel and belt assembly to step up the speed of rotation, I opted for a 75 cm long bow. I made a frame to hold the rotor in place consisting of two stakes hammered into the ground with a socketed cross bar lashed on to hold the top of the rotor. I made bark fibre cordage and tied the end to a stick. I then looped the cord around the rotor and held the other end in the same hand holding the stick. I then pushed and pulled the bow causing the rotor to spin rapidly, forcing air into the fire. I made a simple mud furnace for the blower. Then I collected orange iron bacteria from the creek (iron oxide), mixed it with charcoal powder (carbon to reduce oxide to metal) and wood ash (flux to lower the melting point) and formed it into a cylindrical brick. I filled the furnace with charcoal, put the ore brick in and commenced firing. The ore brick melted and produced slag with tiny, 1mm sized specs of iron through it. My intent was not so much to make iron but to show that the furnace can reach a fairly high temperature using this blower. A taller furnace called a bloomery was generally used in ancient times to produce usable quantities of iron and consumed more charcoal, ore and labour. This device produces a blast of air with each stroke of the bow regardless of whether it is pushed or pulled. The bow makes it possible to operate the blower without using a complicated belt and wheel assembly used in traditional forge blowers. There is a brief pause at the end of each stroke where the fan stops to rotate in the other direction, but this is effectively no different to the intermittent blast of a double acting bellows of Europe or box bellows of Asia. The materials used (wood, bark, bark fibre and clay) are readily available on most continents. No leather, valves or precisely fitted piston gaskets are required as with other types of bellows. The cords for this device wear out often so a number of back up cords should be kept handy for quick replacement. In summary, this is an easy to make device that solves the problem of supplying forced combustion air required for high temperature furnaces and forges. Rajesh Jha - CEO - Hindalco Odisha - speaking at the national level Exhibition of Utkal Chamber in the year of Golden Jubilee Bhubaneswar, 22.02.2014: The Mega National level Exhibition-cum-Seminar of Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (UCCI) inaugurated here at IDCO Exhibition ground on Saturday. UCCI in continuation of a series of events on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee year celebration organized the exhibition under the banner "Odisha Moves Forward" to showcase the phenomenal development the state has made within these years. Dr. Damodar Rout, Minister for Health & Family Welfare and MSME inaugurated the event by releasing balloons into the air in presence of Mr. Rajiv Dube, Director, Group Corporate Services, Aditya Birla Group and Mr. Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Chairman, Paradip Port Trust. A souvenir representing the journey of the Chamber was also released to mark 50 golden years of UCCI. "Odisha has a heritage of trade and commerce for the past 3 thousand years and we are abundantly blessed with all the resources we need yet we are paradoxically the poorest of the poor ", said Mr. Damodar Rout in his address going elaborating the state's trade and commercial history. "The state has great MSME feasibility as to provide the raw materials to the large scale industries. If the major corporate houses cooperate, Odisha can have significant development in the MSME sector.", he further added. Mr. Ramesh Mahapatra, President, Utkal Chamber, welcomed the guests to the dais. In his welcome address he said, "Utkal Chamber this year will find vendors for the MSME sector and with consistent efforts the state will be a mirror to other states". Guest of Honor, Mr. Rajeev Dube, Director, Group Corporate Services, Aditya Birla Group said, "we already have investments close to 25 thousand crores in the state and we look forward to invest much more". "Despite the challenges the growth of the state cannot be argued upon and there is no reason why it could not be the next Australia of India", he further added. Mr. Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Chairman, Paradip Port Trust said, "the growth rate of the port is 25% as compared to -2.5% last year. The port is now ranked 2nd as compared to 6th in major port trusts of India". Expressing his concern over the time wasted in clearance of the planned projects, he said, "we should start speaking about the holy cow of environmental issues which has become a bottle neck for industrial growth in the state, especially the requirement of a timeline to asses and clear the projects." Mr. Debabrata Dash, Secretary, Utkal Chamber, thanked all the guests and participants and informed that the Chamber has been playing the role of an accelerator in the growth of trades and industries in the state especially through its members. Thus the celebration of 50 golden years of the Chamber is nothing but a part of the golden history of industrial growth of the state, he added. The exhibition has become spectacular with over 200 stalls with participation of large and medium scale industries, corporate house, leading organizations, public sector enterprises etc. It has also open exclusive hangers and space for real estate and automobile sectors. It will be open for general public between 3pm to 9.30 pm every day till 26 February. The closing ceremony of the event shall be staged at 5.30pm on 26 Feb. As a part of the event, seminars are being organized by the Chamber which are taking place at the UCCI Conference Hall in Nayapalli daily at 10:30am from 23rd to 26th. The topics include "Forest & Environment Clearances for Sustainable Mining", "Export - as an Engine for Growth", "Technology Implementation in Agriculture & Food Processing" and "From Exclusion to Inclusion - Universal Accessibility". Various eminent industrialists, experts, administrative officials, and professionals from Odisha and outside of state and members of UCCI will participate and conduct these seminars. --- A MediaLearning Web Production. Skookum Jim Award 2012 - Nuna Group of Companies

04:16
Skookum Jim Award for Aboriginal achievement in the mineral industry Recipients of this award have demonstrated exceptional achievement and/or service in the Aboriginal-run service business for the Canadian mining industry or a Canadian aboriginal exploration or mining company, or have made a significant individual contribution to the mining industry. This year's award is being presented to the Nuna Group of Companies for providing mining and construction services to the mining companies in norther Canada and training and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people in the north. Nuna was formed in 1993 and is 51% Inuit-owned [Nunasi Corporation (25.5%); Kitikmeot Corporation (25.5%); and Nuna Management (49%)]. Services the Nuna Group provides, through a group of seven subsidiary companies and fourteen joint ventures and partnerships include: construction services, logistics, contract mining, infrastructure planning, earth-works, large diameter drilling, and mining support services and mining products. Sharing the economic benefits of the business with Inuit, Aboriginal people, and Northerners has resulted in the company having, among owners and subcontractors, a very high proportion of northern content on projects. The company, which is dedicated to ongoing employee training, has a work force in excess of 600 people on various projects in norther Canada and sources 66% to 80% of the goods and services it uses from the North. Nuna was contracted to build the 567km ice road from Yellowknife to Lupin, Nunavut and since 1998 the company has operated and maintained this roadway, which provides access to northern mining sites each winter.

01:04:27
Workshop Session 2 of 4. Best viewed at 1080p. Slides at http://www.adrn.ac.uk/news-events/latest-news/record-linkage-workshop. "Record Linkage: Introduction, recent advances, and privacy issues" The content focuses on concepts and techniques rather than details of algorithms. Basic understanding in databases, algorithms, and probabilities will be beneficial but not required. The tutorial will be based on the book “Data Matching – Concepts and techniques for Record Linkage, Entity Resolution and Duplicate Detection” (Springer, 2012) written by the presenter. Tutorial outline: Session 1: Record linkage introduction, short history of record linkage, applications, and the record linkage process (overview of the main steps) Session 2: Detailed discussion of all steps of the record linkage process (data cleaning and standardisation, indexing/blocking, field and record comparisons, classification, and evaluation), and core techniques used in these steps. Session 3: Advanced record linkage techniques with a focus on linking databases containing personal information (such as those occurring in health and national census), including collective, group and graph linking techniques, as well as advanced indexing techniques that enable large-scale record linkage, and if time-permitting linking temporal and dynamic data, as well as real-time record linkage. Session 4: Major concepts, protocols and challenges used in privacy-preserving record linkage with the aim to link databases across organisations without revealing any private or confidential information. Prof. Peter Christen is at The Australian National University and is a Co-Investigator with the ADRC-Scotland. The workshop was held in The Screening Room at 50 George Square, Edinburgh on 13 July 2015

Recommender systems aim to automatically generate personalized suggestions of products/services to customers (businesses or individuals). Although recommender systems have been well studied, there are still two challenges in the development of a recommender system, particularly in real-world B2B e-services: 1) items or user profiles often present complicated tree structures in business applications, which cannot be handled by normal item similarity measures and 2) online users’ preferences are often vague and fuzzy, and cannot be dealt with by existing recommendation methods. To handle both these challenges, this study first proposes a method for modeling fuzzy tree-structured user preferences, in which fuzzy set techniques are used to express user preferences. A recommendation approach to recommending tree-structured items is then developed. The key technique in this study is a comprehensive tree matching method, which can match two tree-structured data and identify their corresponding parts by considering all the information on tree structures, node attributes, and weights. Importantly, the proposed fuzzy preference tree-based recommendation approach is tested and validated using an Australian business dataset and the MovieLens dataset. Experimental results show that the proposed fuzzy tree-structured user preference profile reflects user preferences effectively and the recommendation approach demonstrates excellent performance for tree-structured items, especially in e-business applications. This study also applies the proposed recommendation approach to the development of a web-based business partner recommender system.

Co-Extracting Opinion Targets and Opinion Words from Online Reviews Based on the Word

01:12
Co-Extracting Opinion Targets and Opinion Words from Online Reviews Based on the Word Alignment Model To get this project in ONLINE or through TRAINING Sessions, Contact:JP INFOTECH, Old No.31, New No.86, 1st Floor, 1st Avenue, Ashok Pillar, Chennai -83. Landmark: Next to Kotak Mahendra Bank. Pondicherry Office: JP INFOTECH, #45, Kamaraj Salai, Thattanchavady, Puducherry -9. Landmark: Next to VVP Nagar Arch. Mobile: (0) 9952649690 , Email: [email protected], web: www.jpinfotech.org Blog: www.jpinfotech.blogspot.com ABSTRACT: Mining opinion targets and opinion words from online reviews are important tasks for fine-grained opinion mining, the key component of which involves detecting opinion relations among words. To this end, this paper proposes a novel approach based on the partially-supervised alignment model, which regards identifying opinion relations as an alignment process. Then, a graph-based co-ranking algorithm is exploited to estimate the confidence of each candidate. Finally, candidates with higher confidence are extracted as opinion targets or opinion words. Compared to previous methods based on the nearest-neighbor rules, our model captures opinion relations more precisely, especially for long-span relations. Compared to syntax-based methods, our word alignment model effectively alleviates the negative effects of parsing errors when dealing with informal online texts. In particular, compared to the traditional unsupervised alignment model, the proposed model obtains better precision because of the usage of partial supervision. In addition, when estimating candidate confidence, we penalize higher-degree vertices in our graph-based co-ranking algorithm to decrease the probability of error generation. Our experimental results on three corpora with different sizes and languages show that our approach effectively outperforms state-of-the-art methods.
