Welcome to the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, New Jersey. Note: Sterling Hill does not allow any video on their property so this is a photo tour. The tour guides Access to the grounds and their outdoor exhibits is free but if you would like to enter the mine or their museums, you must buy a tour ticket. They day we went it was raining so you'll notice the outdoor pictures, everything is wet. I've arranged the pictures in tour order so you will know what to expect when you take the tour. The tour starts out in their mining museum. After a brief talk by the tour guide, you are allowed to roam the museum on your own for 30 minutes. There is a lot to see here with the highlight being the Oreck Family Mineral Gallery. It's the best collection of beautiful minerals and rocks I have ever seen. Next, it's a short walk to the mine entrance, then it's in you go. You can expect to spend about 90 minutes inside the mine as the show you the varies tunnels and areas. It's a constant 56 degrees inside so be prepared. They day we toured it was very muggy out and very comfortable inside. The last stop is inside the Thomas S. Warren Museum Of Fluorescence. This is a very large area with a massive collection of rocks and minerals. The tour guide will turn of the lights for about 10 minutes and everything glows.

Sterling Hill Zinc Mine The Sterling Hill Mine is a former iron and zinc mine in Ogdensburg, New Jersey, United States. It was the last working underground mine in New Jersey when it closed in 1986. It became a museum in 1989 and is now known as the Sterling Hill Mine Tour & Museum of Fluorescence. The Edison Tunnel was named after Thomas Edison, one of America's most famous inventors. Apparently, he was also an iron miner. The mine tour consists of a short walk to the mine, about 1300 feet of tunnel on the first level, and the museum buildings. Only the first level out of twenty five is available to tour since the others are now filled with water. The first level involves no climbing and is accessible by wheelchair or stroller. The mine stays a comfortable 56 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Our tour guide was awesome and he told jokes along the way. Part 1, includes the Edison Tunnel and the museum with the fluorescent rocks. This part was pretty cool. This video, part 2, includes the Rainbow Tunnel. This is an area of the mine wall where the intensely fluorescent zinc ore is exposed. When subjected to shortwave ultraviolet light, the walls fluoresce bright green and red. The red being calcite and the green being willemite, which was one of the main zinc ore minerals mined here. NOTE: This is a walking tour. Wear comfortable shoes. Join New Jersey Paranormal on the first ever public ghost hunt of the Sterling Hills Mining Museum. Nestled in the small town of Ogdensburg, New Jersey is the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. What once was one of the world's richest zinc ore deposits and renowned zinc mine is now a world famous museum and attraction. However as with most mining facilities, it has seen it's share of accidents and deaths throughout it's history. Over 77 deaths were recorded in the mine over a 90 year period however the mine was in use several years prior to when they began recording deaths in the mine so that number is probably much higher. There have been claims of activity not only in the mine, but in several of the building on the site as well. Shadow figures, voices, footsteps, faces in the windows of the buildings and more. This site has the potential to be one of the best paranormal sites in the state. We are fortunate and grateful for the opportunity to join you in attempting to communicate with all of the spirits that reside inside the property of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. This should be a good one, you don't want to miss this....
