What Causes Ridges in Finger and Toenails

01:58
What Causes Horizontal & vertical Ridges in Finger and Toenails Ridges in fingernails Vertical ridges sometimes appear along the length of the fingernails. Sometimes marks, discoloration or pits or grooves on a fingernail, such as those that run from side to side (known as Beau's lines), can be an indication of a nail injury or a health problem. However, in the case of vertical ridges, there is normally no reason to be concerned. These ridges look and feel like raised lines, and they run from the cuticle at the base of the fingernail to the tip. These ridges are not usually a sign of injury or a health problem but are a harmless result of ageing. They often become more prominent or numerous as you get older. However, if the vertical ridges are accompanied by brittle nails, with jagged edges or splitting, you may have a condition known as onychorrhexis, which may be linked to a skin-related medical condition such as lichen planus, a type of non-infectious skin rash, or certain other health conditions such as anaemia or an underactive thyroid gland. Also, if the ridges run horizontally from side to side, they may indicate a health problem. So you should seek medical advice

Ripples of Beira Lake Life

01:35
Beira Lake is a lake in the centre of the city of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The lake is surrounded by many large businesses in the city. It initially occupied approximately 165 ha (410 acres) of land 100 years ago and this has since been reduced to 65 ha (160 acres) today due to various reasons. During the colonial era of the Portuguese, and the English the lake was used for a wide variety of purposes It still retains its Portuguese name. It is connected to many intricate canals providing easy way of transporting goods within the city and suburban cities. The lake was built by the Portuguese to provide protection to Colombo from enemies mainly local kings. In 1578, Mayadunne of the Kingdom of Sitawaka attempted to cut of supplies to the invaders but failed to drain the lake. His son Rajasingha I succeeded in 1587 to drain the crocodile infested lake by curring off several canals but failed to defeat the Portuguese as they brought reinforcements from India through sea. After the Dutch laid siege and captured the lake it was expanded and created several islands such as the Slave Island some of them were large enough to have a village and a plantation of 600 coconut trees. After the British took control they removed the crocodiles and developed the area surrounding the lake for recreational activities such as rowing and yachting. The area around the lake was popular for parties including a grand ball that was held to celebrate the news of British victory in Waterloo. Ceylon's first botanical garden the Kew Gardens was opened in Slave Island in 1810 to cultivate seedlings provided by the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in London. By the 19th century land reclamation for development began and the land area of the lake was reduced, pollution also began to increase. The Beira Lake plays a major role in the Western Region Megapolis Project. Under the project the Beira lake is expected to be cleaned and developed with Singaporean assistance and private sector involvement. Waterways will be cleared by blocking illegal water outlets and sewerage lines into the lake and relocating settlements that dump waste to the lake in the area to social housing units.[2][3][4] Under the Megapolis plan after the restoration a Shopping district ,an Enternainment district and a promenade will be created in the area around the Beira lake alongside many hotels and mixed development projects. The derivation of the name is uncertain, yet it was as recent as 1927 that ‘Beira Lake’ first appeared on maps. Until then it was called ‘Colombo Lake’ or merely ‘the lake’. The common belief is that Beira is derived from De Beer, the Dutch engineer who constructed the moats, sluices and water defences of Colombo. The recovery of a granite plaque inscribed “De Beer 1700” in a sluice from the lake supports this belief. But others point out that ‘beira’ is a Portuguese word meaning, ‘bank or edge of a lake’. Despite its reduction in size, the lake remains impressive. Every city needs a body of water, a natural and calm contrast to the bustling surroundings, and Beira Lake fulfils the requirements splendidly.

Quantum Physics Explained

25:34
Quantum mechanics is the branch of physics relating to the very small. It results in what may appear to be some very strange conclusions about the physical world. At the scale of atoms and electrons, many of the equations of classical mechanics, which describe how things move at everyday sizes and speeds, cease to be useful. In classical mechanics, objects exist in a specific place at a specific time. However, in quantum mechanics, objects instead exist in a haze of probability; they have a certain chance of being at point A, another chance of being at point B and so on. Three revolutionary principles Quantum mechanics (QM) developed over many decades, beginning as a set of controversial mathematical explanations of experiments that the math of classical mechanics could not explain. It began at the turn of the 20th century, around the same time that Albert Einstein published his theory of relativity, a separate mathematical revolution in physics that describes the motion of things at high speeds. Unlike relativity, however, the origins of QM cannot be attributed to any one scientist. Rather, multiple scientists contributed to a foundation of three revolutionary principles that gradually gained acceptance and experimental verification between 1900 and 1930. They are: Quantized properties: Certain properties, such as position, speed and color, can sometimes only occur in specific, set amounts, much like a dial that "clicks" from number to number. This challenged a fundamental assumption of classical mechanics, which said that such properties should exist on a smooth, continuous spectrum. To describe the idea that some properties "clicked" like a dial with specific settings, scientists coined the word "quantized." Particles of light: Light can sometimes behave as a particle. This was initially met with harsh criticism, as it ran contrary to 200 years of experiments showing that light behaved as a wave; much like ripples on the surface of a calm lake. Light behaves similarly in that it bounces off walls and bends around corners, and that the crests and troughs of the wave can add up or cancel out. Added wave crests result in brighter light, while waves that cancel out produce darkness. A light source can be thought of as a ball on a stick being rhythmically dipped in the center of a lake. The color emitted corresponds to the distance between the crests, which is determined by the speed of the ball's rhythm. Waves of matter: Matter can also behave as a wave. This ran counter to the roughly 30 years of experiments showing that matter (such as electrons) exists as particles. What is a meander - Geologist describes meandering streams, rivers and oxbow lakes.

03:02
The development of graceful river meanders and oxbow lakes is explained in this short Two Minute Geology video. Entrenched Meanders are also explained. Entrenched Meanders form when tectonic uplift begins underneath an meandering river system - causing the river to carve a meandering river canyon. In addition to the Yakima River Canyon in Washington, the San Juan River also features excellent entrenched meanders at Gooseneck State Park in Utah. This episode begins with Nick standing next to a sweeping curve of the Yakima River downstream of Ellensburg, Washington. The concept of meanders being old age features is established. When rivers are youthful, they are typically linear, but as the river ages, its subtle curves become more exaggerated meanders as time goes by. The meanders are constantly shifting their locations due to continued erosion on the outside of meander curves - and continued deposition of sediment on the inside of the curves. The final stage of meander development is a cut off of the meander that almost loops back completely on itself, and the river abandons the meander - cuts a new straight channel - and an ox-bow lake is formed at the abandoned meander. Since the Yakima River has beautiful, well-formed meanders here, it is clear that central Washington was flat long ago - just like the Mississippi River system today. The episode then switches to Nick at an overlook vista on the western rim of the Yakima River Canyon. Since the meandering river is now at the bottom of a canyon, the concept of plate tectonic uplift is introduced. The canyon cutting here is a younger event than the river meander development. Regional uplift in central Washington is due to the development of the Yakima Fold and Thrust Belt - and area of densely packed folds and faults that show that this area has been under crustal compression during the last 10 million years. The compression is the force that drives the tectonic uplift that has caused the river to become energized. The river has held its position against an uplifting section of Columbia River Basalt layers now on display in the walls of the beautiful Yakima River Canyon. The Yakima River has been here longer than the Yakima River Canyon! Filmed in November, 2012. Episode written by Nick Zentner and Tom Foster. Video, Sound, & Editing: Tom Foster

Interference of Waves | Superposition and Interference in light and water waves | Physics

03:53
Interference of Waves | Interference and superposition explained in light and water waves with animation | Interference of waves in two dimensions | Physics The phenomena of the light which undergoes refraction and reflection by be explained by the 2 theories of light. They are corpuscular and wave theory of light. But some of the other phenomena such as interference and diffraction can only be explained by wave theory of light. We know that 2 or more wave, motions travel in space at the same time. Sometimes these 2 wave motions combine to and some physical effects take place. Inference is once such physical effect. When 2 or more waves cross each other in the same medium, they both interfere and accident takes. This accident is known as interference of waves. Interference is the combine effect of the disturbance caused by the each individual wave at the same place and at same time. This effect can be understood from the principle of superposition of waves. Principle Of superposition of waves: To understand this concept of the superposition, let's understand some of the examples. When we drop a pin in a tank, we see some circular waves. When other another pin is dropped, we see some more waves. These waves travel in the same tank and some or the other time these superimpose on each other. The resultant wave would have amplitude which is the sum of the displacement due to the individual waves. " The principle of superposition of waves states that when two or more waves travel through the same medium simultaneously, the resultant displacement at any point is the vector sum if the displacement due to the individual waves." In our case the pin is dropped in a ripple tank with 2 pins. If Y1 is the displacement caused at a point due to the first source and Y2 is the displace cause by the 2nd source, then the over displacement R at the point of interference would given by R=Y1+Y2 When both the sources have the same amplitude which then Y1,Y 2 would be equal to Y. When Y1 is due the crest or trough and Y2 is also due a crest or trough the resultant would be the maximum and when Y1 is due to a crest and Y2 is due to a trough or vice versa, the displacement would be minimum. When maximum displacement takes place it's called constructive superposition and when minimum displacement takes place it's called the destructive superposition. In constructive displacement, a maximum displacement curve is produced. Thus, when constructive displacement occurs then the phase difference between the waves would be ZERO or a multiple of 2π. When minimum displacement occurs, wave super impose destructively, the phase difference of the waves would be π or an odd integral multiple of the π. Interference of waves: When superposition of waves occurs, they could be constructive or destructive. This physical effort observed as a result of the superposition of waves is called interference. "The physical effect of the superposition of waves from the sources vibrating with the same frequency and amplitude is called the interference of waves. The physical effect is in the form of vibrations in the amplitude of resultant wave in a given potion of the medium" Interference is a special case of superposition of waves which originate from different sources but have the same amplitude, same frequency.

How Are Tsunamis Formed?

03:09
What’s the difference between a tsunami and a normal wave? What makes them so deadly? Learn more at HowStuffWorks.com: http://science.howstuffworks.com/nature/natural-disasters/tsunami.htm Share on Facebook: http://goo.gl/k3qrO6 Share on Twitter: http://goo.gl/RxK3Mz Subscribe: http://goo.gl/ZYI7Gt Visit our site: http://www.brainstuffshow.com The word tsunami comes from two Japanese words: tsu (harbor) and nami (waves). Basically, it means when these waves hit the harbor, brother, you’d better look out! Tsunamis are basically giant waves but there are some differences between them and normal waves. Any wave – whether a tsunami or a regular joe-schmo wave – is simply an energy carrier. A wave isn’t the movement of water, but rather the movement of energy through water. What initiates this energy transfer and the amount of energy they pack are two things that differentiate tsunamis from normal waves. The typical wave on the surface of the ocean is propagated by blowing wind. (Well, Buckminster Fuller pointed out the wind sucks, it doesn’t blow, but that’s perhaps for a different episode.) When the wind whips up the surface it gets more and more traction, which builds a wave that travels inward toward the shore. Tsunamis on the other hand propagate from underwater disturbances like a rockslide, earthquake or volcano. These are called tsunamigenic events. Think of a massive pile of rocks or a faultline along two tectonic plates as possessing potential energy. There’s a ton of energy stored in them. But when that pile of rocks collapses or one plate along the fault line slips beneath another, that potential energy is unleashed. It becomes kinetic energy and when we’re talking earthquakes and rock slides the amount of kinetic energy released can be massive. This energy is transferred outward from the point of origin in much the same way that a pebble tossed into a pond will create a series of ripples. This kinetic energy takes the form of waves radiating away from the underwater rockslide, volcano or earthquake and the waves carry this enormous amount of energy through the water at hundreds of miles an hour. If you’re watching it overhead in the deep ocean, a tsunami wave will be only about 3 or so feet tall. But what you see, at the risk of mixing metaphors, is only the tip of the iceberg. As the tsunami encounters shallower water, the upward sloping land compresses the energy of the wave, both slowing its velocity and increasing its height above sea level tremendously. Contrary to common misconception, a tsunami is actually a series of waves (remember, like the ripples from the stone thrown into a pond). As they reach the shore and slow down, waves in the rear catch up and the whole wave train compresses, kind of like squeezing an accordion. A person on the shore would see the tide pulled out and then suddenly reintroduced as a massive series of tsunami waves up to 100 feet high and traveling 30 miles per hour inland. The explosion of energy released by the rock slide or earthquake hundreds or thousands of miles away has reached the shore, bringing widespread destruction, death and flooding. Since they pose such a danger, scientists are trying to find ways to alleviate tsunamis. The problem is, once tsunamis have started, they can’t be stopped. The best researchers can hope to do is predict their path, power and formation in order to warn coastal areas to clear out as soon as possible and save lives. A simple guide to electronic components.

38:06
By request:- A basic guide to identifying components and their functions for those who are new to electronics. This is a work in progress, and I welcome feedback from you guys on whether I should break it down into more manageable chunks. I've kept the maths to a minimum, since it can be off-putting to someone just getting started in electronics. The idea of this video is to slot in some more of the jigsaw pieces involved in learning electronics, when you start to recognise components, but aren't quite sure what they are or what they do. It's tricky to squeeze even the basics into a single video, and I've just realised how long this one is (and why it took all night to upload). If you enjoy my videos you can support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and components at https://www.patreon.com/bigclive

Diffraction of Light

02:18
What is Diffraction of Light Diffraction is the bending of light as it passes the edge of an object. An example of this property is the shadow. If observed carefully, the edges of shadows are not solid, but slightly fuzzy. So, what is going on? Diffraction can be easily explained with Huygens' Principle. Just as the front of a wave passes the edge of an object, the wavelets will cause the succeeding front to bend around the edge. For some time, it was believed that the bending of light was not due to light itself, but the edge of the object. Not until the British Physicist, Thomas Young, conducted the double slit experiment before light was accepted as a wave. In his experiment, he made two slits on a barrier and allowed monochromatic light (light of a single wavelength) to pass through. The result is a series of light and dark areas on the screen that could not be explained under the particle model of light. Under the wave model of light, these light and dark areas can be explained with constructive and destructive interference of waves. What is an ICO Initial Coin Offering Meaning Definition Explanation and Process

03:54
What is an ICO Initial Coin Offering? We discusse the meaning, definition, explanation and process. ICO is the abbreviation of Initial Coin Offering. It means that someone offers investors some units of a new cryptocurrency or crypto-token in exchange for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Since 2013 ICOs are often used to fund the development of new cryptocurrencies. The pre-created token can be easily sold and traded on all cryptocurrency exchanges if there is demand for them. With the success of Ethereum there has been an increase in the number of ICOs to fund the development of new cryptocurrency projects. As a result, the ICO token could become the securities and shares of tomorrow. Here is a short history: One of the first cryptocurrencies distributed by an ICO was Ripple. In early 2013 Ripple Labs created around 100 billion XRP tokens. The company sold these tokens to fund the development of the Ripple platform. Later in 2013, Mastercoin promised to create a layer on top of Bitcoin to execute smart contracts and tokenize Bitcoin transactions. The developer sold some million Mastercoin tokens in exchange for Bitcoin and received around $1 million. Several other cryptocurrencies have been funded with ICO, for example, Lisk, which sold its coins for around $5 million in early 2016. The most well-known is Ethereum. In mid-2014 the Ethereum Foundation sold its coin for 0.0005 Bitcoin each. With this, they received nearly $20 million. This was one of the largest crowdfundings ever provided. The most prominent demonstration of the potential of Ethereum’s smart contracts has been Decentralized Autonomous Organization or The DAO that, in turn, raised Ether worth $100m. The investors received in exchange the Ether Dao Token which had its own market price.  The DAO also demonstrated the need for increase security measures. The DAO was hacked and Etherium had to use a hard fork to claw back the improperly acquired tokens. Let’s talk about legality. A recent SEC's decision clears up some of the question. First, if a token a utility token, meaning it gives the owner access to a specific protocol or network it may not be classified as a financial security. On the other hand, if the token is an equity token, meaning that it's only purpose is to appreciate in value, then it looks a lot more like a security. So, many ICOs are going offshore. This is done by forming an offshore company with a foreign address and telephone number. Since our company is a leader in offshore company formation, many people have called our company to establish such entities. I have been in the offshore company formation world for 27 years as of this year. The key is this - Like one of the wealthiest, most well-respected investors, Warren Buffet, says “It’s okay to lose a little money. But it is not okay to lose a little reputation.” If you do an ICO, first and foremost, keep your investor’s best-interest in mind. And follow the rules. Get good legal counsel and make sure you obey the law of the land - wherever that may be. We can set up a company for you, but you are responsible for using the company legally and ethically. If you have questions, give us a call at 1-800-959-8819 or visit offshore company dot com. This material is to provide insight and opinions but is not a substitute for legal, tax or other professional advice. Ayyappa Devotional Songs Malayalam | Aravanapriyan | Hindu Devotional Songs Malayalam

01:07:06
Ayyappan (also called Sastavu , Manikandan or Sasta) is a Hindu deity who is believed to be an incarnation of Dharma Sasta, the offspring of Shiva and Vishnu (in the form of Mohini, his only female avatar), He is generally depicted in a yogic posture, wearing a jewel around his neck, hence named Manikandan,Literally meaning "With bell around the neck". By the 20th century, there has been an increase in the number of worshipers of Ayyappan from many different groups, spurred by vast improvements in transport and communication in southern India. Ayyappan's annual festival is a time of pilgrimage for ever-growing numbers of men from throughout South India. The most prominent and famous Ayyappan shrine is the one at Sabarimala, in the hills of Pathanamthitta in Kerala, with over 30 million devotees visiting it every year, making it one of the largest pilgrimage sites in the world. These devotees fast and engage in austerities under the leadership of a Periya Swami (one who has undertaken the pilgrimage to Sabarimala for 18 years) for weeks beforehand and then travel in groups to the shrine for a glimpse of Ayyappan. Bus tickets are hard to obtain for several weeks as masses of elated men, clad in distinctive ritual dhotis of saffron, black and light blue colors, throng public transportation during their trip to the shrine. The name "sri Ayyappan" is used as a respectful form of address in the Tamil and Malayalam languages. The Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil sentence Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa can be translated as, "Oh Ayyappa!
