Ripple effect is often used colloquially to mean a multiplier (economics). In sociology, it can be observed how social interactions can affect situations not directly related to the initial interaction, and in charitable activities where information can be disseminated and passed from community to community to broaden its impact. The concept has been applied in computer science within the field of software metrics as a complexity measure.

Architecture's ripple effect: Designing for big impact | Thomas Bryans | TEDxGuildford
Buildings create impacts that go far beyond their walls. Their social, environmental and economic ripples are too often undervalued or ignored. But what if we design consciously for positive impact? — We can harness the act of architecture to create a better future for all. Thomas Bryans is a designer and co-founder of IF_DO, a London-based architecture practice dedicated to creating projects with a positive impact on users, the environment and the surrounding community. The firm constantly seeks to make their projects do more—working to create buildings that are not just beautiful, but that deliver wider social, economic, and ecological benefits throughout their lifespan. Thomas studied at both the University of Edinburgh and Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he gained his Master of Architecture. He has written extensively on issues of architecture and sustainability, and is passionately committed to improving the diversity of the architecture profession. What is the Ripple effect ?
A Ripple effect is a situation where, like the ever expanding ripples across water when an object is dropped into it, an effect from an initial state can be followed outwards incrementally. Examples can be found in economics where an individual's reduction in spending reduces the incomes of others and their ability to spend. Design for the Ripple Effect: How a Small Act Leads to Big Change
Drawing on research in social psychology, Professor Jennifer Aaker, General Atlantic Professor of Marketing, discusses the idea of rethinking happiness. How do you design for an environment that allows for happiness (rather than designing to 'be happy' or 'get happy')? One key is designing for the ripple effect, which is based on the idea that small acts can create big change. What are small acts that you could do that would create meaning and impact? Professor Aaker tells the story of how a small group of friends and family harnessed social media to help find a bone marrow match for Sameer and Vinay. Excerpt from "Happiness is Miserable: Here's Why" http://faculty-gsb.stanford.edu/aaker/index.html http://faculty-gsb.stanford.edu/aaker/pages/CoursesPoSTmedia.html

Ripple effect of Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong's verdict within the company and across Korea
이재용 선고 삼성 내부 파장 및 한국 경제에 미치는 영향 Now that the verdict is out,... the question becomes: what does it mean for Samsung and the Korean economy as a whole? With Samsung wielding such an enormous influence over the country,... there are concerns about the potential ripple effects of the court's decision. Taking a closer look at its possible impact,... Cha Sang-mi reports. Prior to the announcement of the fate of Korea's largest conglomerate leader, the Korean public, and even the financial world had been holding its breath as the verdict was announced,... as it could have repercussions for the conglomerate's internal affairs, and for the Korean economy as a whole. "The result of this verdict is definitely going to affect the Korean economy. The implication of this trial is not only a matter for Samsung as a private company, but rather thousands of affiliated companies and organizations linked to the conglomerate." Some experts say the absence of the ultimate decision-maker could have knock-on effects for affiliates linked to the company, ranging from its main subcontractors, right the way down to restaurants near its headquarters. Yet others view the situation in a completely different manner. "At this point it is really hard for any experts to foresee the implication of the verdict on Korea's economy. But personally, I am very positive that this five-year sentence will put an end to the corrupted, cozy business-government relationship in Korea and bring economic development." As to the international market, some experts believe they will see the ripple effects of the trial's verdict. Samsung Electronics' stock price has been dropping since the beginning of this month, falling 1.05 percent on Friday to close at 2-million-3-hundred-51-thousand won, or roughly 2-thousand-eighty U.S. dollars. "The trial of Samsung Electronic's vice president will definitely have a big ripple effect in the KOSPI's fluctuations. Rather than the accusations, the uncertainty surrounding Samsung's future is likely to cause the fall in their share price." As to whether the record-high performance of Samsung in the second quarter of 2017 will continue in the latter half of the year, experts say it is still early to predict. But despite the power that Lee Jae-yong wielded, it's important to remember that Samsung is much more than just one man. "The tarnished image of Samsung Group is fatal and almost irrecoverable to the company's brand. However, the company is not a start-up and it's been around for a long time, so the implication won't be too big." While the experts differ in their opinion, they unanimously agree that Korea's financial world should look ahead the future and manage their industry honestly and impartially. Ripple effect of Scotland's independence vote on Mideast markets
In this week’s edition of Business Middle East, we examine the upcoming independence referendum in Scotland. To be, or not to be in the UK, that is the question to which Scotland will answer either “yes or no” on Thursday. Much of the concern has been focused on the potential impact on the sterling. At the same time, questions have been raised in the Gulf countries about oil prices, in the event that Scotland quits Britain During an emotionally-charged and hastily-arranged visit to Scotland to shore up the ‘No’ campaign British Prime Minister David Cameron pleaded with Scots not to break up the UK’s “family of nations”. ‘Yes’ campaigners believe independence is a natural step, and claim that Scotland’s economy, free from the restraints of being in the United Kingdom, would thrive. There has also been much debate over the future ownership of the North Sea oil fields. The Scottish government suggests the fields would underwrite the country’s economy post-independence. Oil and gas will remain the topic of discussion in the case of secession. This could have an impact on crude prices, which would in turn affect the revenues of countries dependent on the oil business, such as those in the Gulf region. The other area of concern is, if there is a ‘yes’ vote whether the pound will remain the national currency. Sterling has been subject to large fluctuations during the run-up to the referendum, which has helped some Middle East currencies. The Saudi riyal rose by almost 4.5 percent against the pound last month and the UAE’s dirham gained almost as much. Scottish voters now hold the key to their economic future, and the financial markets are looking on with concern. For a further insight into the referendum’s effect on Middle East markets, euronews’ Daleen Hassan spoke to Chief Market Strategist with ADS securities in Abu Dhabi, Noureldeen Al Hammoury. BISD's ripple effect on the Beaumont housing market
BEAUMONT-By: Leslie Rangel Some say BISD's problems have a ripple effect across the city. The president of the Beaumont Board of Realtors says the real estate market is suffering. Some say that could be good news, if you're ready to buy. This home at the corner of Crow Road and Coolidge in Beaumont has been on the market for five months. With all the upgrades of a pool, hot tub, granite counter tops and plenty of space, the president of the Beaumont Board of Realtors says it's a rarity no one has bought it yet during what's usually their busiest season. "We can sell this house in one of the outlying markets for the high 2's probably though realistically in the 300s, where as here you can get it in the 180's the high 180's you get more bang for your buck in Beaumont you just do," Scarlett Brekel says. The real estate agent says despite the cut in price, many people choose to live in areas like Midcounty or Lumberton. "It does get frustrating, it just does because again it's a good community," Brekel said. A community Brekel says is tainted by what's happening in the Beaumont school district. "The news came out about BISD so things slowed down a litle bit, when the layoff was announced and I don't want to harp on BISD, it is what it is, we are suffering from it," Brekel said. Brekel says that's causing friends in the business to sell homes outside of Beaumont. "They live here but they've been selling in the Houston market. That's a big stretch because Houston is big," Brekel says. Brekel hasn't made that trip yet, she's encouraging others to stay strong. "I know there's a lot of frustration in the community but everyone needs to remember it won't be this way forever," Brekel said. And she reminds people, with prices so low in Beaumont, there are plenty of good deals. "Now is absolutely the time to buy!" Brekel said. If you are interested in buying a home, you can contact the Beaumont Board of Realtors.

Another Ripple Effect ep25; CASE FOR $95-$9500 XRP - Cleaning up Vostro accounts 1% - 100% adoption
With an estimated 27 trillion dollars sitting dormant the question remains can we do anything to free up those dollars and if so can we push it through the xrp and the distributed Ledger technology. Don't be upset with calculations but you're allowed to question it's speculation. S. Korea's finance chief urges Japan to scrap export tech-related curbs
홍남기 부총리 “일 수출제한, 글로벌 경제 부정적…철회해야” An economy-related ministers' meeting was held in Seoul this morning to discuss a range of issues affecting South Korea, including measures in response to Japan's new export regulations. Kim Hyesung reports. At a meeting with economy-related ministers on Monday, finance minister Hong Nam-ki again urged Japan to scrap export tech-related curbs on South Korea. "Japan's export restriction measures run counter to the principles of the WTO agreement. The measures will not only negatively affect South Korean companies, but are also a concern for Japanese companies and the whole global economy." His repeated calls for Tokyo to lift the export restrictions come after Japan's restrictions on exporting high-tech materials, namely fluorine polyimide, photoresist and etching gas, to South Korea went into effect last Thursday. Korean companies use the three materials to produce chips and display panels which are used to supply other global companies like Apple and Sony...meaning Japan's export restrictions could have a ripple effect through the whole global supply chain. Minister Hong said the government will work closely with Korean companies to minimize losses and work with other countries in the global community, adding that the APEC summit and IMF annual meeting are scheduled for the latter half of this year. At the meeting, he also identified the U.S.-China trade spat and Brexit as key external risks and vowed to keep monitoring developments, adding that while U.S.-China tensions have eased with the two sides agreeing to resume trade negotiations, uncertainty and its effect on the high-tech industry remains high. In addition, he said South Korea is working on diversifying its trading partners, including establishing a bilateral free trade agreement with Malaysia... and will also help local companies win more overseas infrastructure projects.
