Miner Bob Young pans for gold at his placer mine in Southcentral Alaska during the late 1960s or early 1970s. He pans for gold, pushes soil into a sluice box with his D9 Caterpillar bulldozer, moves tailings piles, cleans the sluice box, separates gold from soil, and weighs out the gold. John Baker filmed the sequence during the late 1960s or early 1970s and added narration in about 2000 (Color/Sound/16mm film). What is GOLD RUSH? What does GOLD RUSH mean? GOLD RUSH meaning, definition & explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A gold rush is a new discovery of gold that brings an onrush of miners seeking their fortune. Major gold rushes took place in the 19th century in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, and the United States, while smaller gold rushes took place elsewhere. The wealth that resulted was distributed widely because of reduced migration costs and low barriers to entry. While gold mining itself was unprofitable for most diggers and mine owners, some people made large fortunes, and the merchants and transportation facilities made large profits. The resulting increase in the world's gold supply stimulated global trade and investment. Historians have written extensively about the migration, trade, colonization, and environmental history associated with gold rushes. Gold rushes were typically marked by a general buoyant feeling of a "free for all" in income mobility, in which any single individual might become abundantly wealthy almost instantly, as expressed in the California Dream. Gold rushes helped spur a huge immigration that often led to permanent settlement of new regions. Activities propelled by gold rushes define significant aspects of the culture of the Australian and North American frontiers. At a time when the world's money supply was based on gold, the newly mined gold provided economic stimulus far beyond the gold fields. Gold rushes extend back as far as gold mining, to the Roman Empire, whose gold mining was described by Diodorus Siculus and Pliny the Elder, and probably further back to Ancient Egypt. Within each mining rush there is typically a transition through progressively higher capital expenditures, larger organizations, and more specialized knowledge. They may also progress from high-unit value to lower unit value minerals (from gold to silver to base metals). A rush typically begins with the discovery of placer gold made by an individual. At first the gold may be washed from the sand and gravel by individual miners with little training, using a gold pan or similar simple instrument. Once it is clear that the volume of gold-bearing sediment is larger than a few cubic metres, the placer miners will build rockers or sluice boxes, with which a small group can wash gold from the sediment many times faster than using gold pans. Winning the gold in this manner requires almost no capital investment, only a simple pan or equipment that may be built on the spot, and only simple organization. The low investment, the high value per unit weight of gold, and the ability of gold dust and gold nuggets to serve as a medium of exchange, allow placer gold rushes to occur even in remote locations. After the sluice-box stage, placer mining may become increasingly large scale, requiring larger organizations, and higher capital expenditures. Small claims owned and mined by individuals may need to be merged into larger tracts. Difficult-to-reach placer deposits may be mined by tunnels. Water may be diverted by dams and canals to placer mine active river beds or to deliver water needed to wash dry placers. The more advanced techniques of ground sluicing, hydraulic mining, and dredging may be used. Typically the heyday of a placer gold rush would last only a few years. The free gold supply in stream beds would become depleted somewhat quickly, and the initial phase would be followed by prospecting for veins of lode gold that were the original source of the placer gold. Hard rock mining, like placer mining, may evolve from low capital investment and simple technology to progressively higher capital and technology. The surface outcrop of a gold-bearing vein may be oxidized, so that the gold occurs as native gold, and the ore needs only to be crushed and washed (free milling ore). The first miners may at first build a simple arrastra to crush their ore; later, they may build stamp mills to crush ore more quickly. As the miners dig down, they may find that the deeper part of vein contains gold locked in sulfide or telluride minerals, which will require smelting. If the ore is still sufficiently rich, it may be worth shipping to a distant smelter (direct shipping ore). Lower-grade ore may require on-site treatment to either recover the gold or to produce a concentrate sufficiently rich for transport to the smelter. As the district turns to lower-grade ore, the mining may change from underground mining to large open-pit mining. Many silver rushes followed upon gold rushes. As transportation and infrastructure improve, the focus may change progressively from gold to silver to base metals. In this way, Leadville, Colorado started as a placer gold discovery, achieved fame as a silver-mining district, then relied on lead and zinc in its later days.

This movie is the last remaining part of footage from an old video cassette that I owned. I believe that it is still available from the Empire Mines State Park. I do not own the copyright to this movie and this is being posted here under YouTube's Guidelines for informational and teaching purposes. Then I added pictures on my own of the Malakoff State park from days gone past when mining was active in the area to the end of this movie. This is a great addition to this hydraulic mining playlist, so watch history being taught from long ago & then learn & enjoy.

Our mining claim neighbors called the Cops! People living on the other side of the river where our mining claim is and not liking our mining, called the cops. It appears our neighbors just did not want their liberal utopia disturbed so they call the cops to harass us. The police were very cool as I knew one of them from checking our permits on another river couple months earlier and an Oregon DEQ meeting he showed up at. The rude lady yells to at from other side of river "you need a permit to do that"...we had them of course. She also told cops we were disrespecful and rude to her...which was totally false. She made up her own narrative about what was happening to justify her being annoyed. Liberal tactic # 3, change the narrative or just plain lie! This is the short version of the video, filmed on the Applegate River in Oregon while we were LEGALLY GOLD MINING! In the video, it is a continuous video, shot on my GoPro camera that I was wearing on my head. The video shows me mining and moving around with no editing to show what actually goes on while mining. Then my buddy is helping me move rocks while I'm using a sub-surface dredge...then the cops show up , and I tell him is where the action starts. UPDATE Jan 1st, 2015: In response to some of the comments saying we are uneducated, rednecks and other stuff...the guys in the video are as follows. One is a millionaire CPA, another a self employed business owner, two others are also self employed and owns a body shop and the other an internet marketer and freelance videographer, and lastly one is the son of the CPA guy and currently in college. Oregon Mining Law: Next time this happens, I will ask the State Police to cite the offending people who disrupt our mining operation based on this Oregon Mining Law: "ORS 517.133 Interfering with a mining operation. (1) As used in this section, "lawful mining operation" means any small scale mining operation that is in full compliance with state and federal laws. (2) A person commits the crime of interfering with a mining operation if the person intentionally: (a) Interferes with a lawful mining operation; or (b) Stops, or causes to be stopped, a lawful mining operation. (3) Interfering with a mining operation is a Class C misdemeanor. [1999 c.354 §6]" Here is the GoPro camera I was using: http://amzn.to/19yYus6

The Bryan Mine and Mill is a notable historic Gold Mining Property with blocked reserves and a substantial milling operation which has left thousands of tons of waste rock and tailings. These tailings and waste rock were processed prior to 1900 from historical accounts and could likely be re-processed at a great profit. This claim was once a large production as evidenced by the amount of work done at the site. There are multiple large adits and shafts on the claim. In addition, there is existing evidence of further infrastructure including multiple foundations and rock walls.

EPISODE 42: This is the first episode of a 4-PART Bell Island Newfoundland Series, where we explore the three largest abandoned mines (by far) ever featured on this channel. To start, this episode is the PRIMER EPISODE to prep everybody for what is coming. We are a group of Abandoned Mine explorers in Nova Scotia. Abandoned Mine Hunting is somewhat of a cross between the hobby of urban exploration, caving (spelunking), and history enthusiast. If this is your kind of thing, be sure to subscribe so you will always be informed of each new episode. IF YOU KNOW OF AN ABANDONED MINE IN ATLANTIC CANADA, we'd love to hear from you. Send a private message. We may just come and do an explore and episode featuring your site ! ** BEST VIEWED using the YouTube app on a full size SmartTV ** SPECIAL NOTE: While this type of exploration is almost always kilometers back in deep forest, it cannot always be guaranteed that the land we are hiking is public (Crown). These forgotten old mines/claims are almost always over 100 years old. It is also common that most mine workings have some kind of natural cave-in covering their mouth, after nearly a century of erosion. So some explores may involve preparation of clearing that cave-in, and/or dealing with letting spring water (flooding) out of the adits. These facts, along with the inherent danger of abandoned mines, force us to remain anonymous. We are responsible for our own risks & actions (not yours), but be clear we are not promoting this activity. Only showing you what we do. As with any typical Urban Exploration type channel, our faces and commentary will always be masked. If you are seeing an Episode, it means we are already weeks or month(s) finished with that site and never going back. The delay is intentional, as nothing shown here will be in realtime. It cannot be stressed enough - abandoned mines or mine sites can pose a ton of lethal threats. *We are not kids looking for kicks* Keep in mind that our group is made up of responsible adults, each with specific skills, and cross-Canada experience with over 100+ mine walks. Most 10 times larger and deeper than will ever be found in Nova Scotia! Specific research is always done beforehand. Required equipment and backups are a must. While it is indeed possible to safely explore an abandoned mine, DO NOT ENTER A MINE without being experienced, or going with an experienced explorer. If you don't know what you're doing, STAY OUT STAY ALIVE is the best policy. #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #Newfoundland

What is ROCKER BOX? What does ROCKER BOX mean? ROCKER BOX meaning - ROCKER BOX definition - ROCKER BOX explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A rocker box (also known as a cradle) is a gold mining implement for separating alluvial placer gold from sand and gravel which was used in placer mining in the 19th century. It consists of a high-sided box, which is open on one end and on top, and was placed on rockers. The inside bottom of the box is lined with riffles and usually a carpet (called Miner's Moss) similar to a sluice. On top of the box is a classifier sieve (usually with half-inch or quarter-inch openings) which screens-out larger pieces of rock and other material, allowing only finer sand and gravel through. Between the sieve and the lower sluice section is a baffle, which acts as another trap for fine gold and also ensures that the aggregate material being processed is evenly distributed before it enters the sluice section. It sits at an angle and points towards the closed back of the box. Traditionally, the baffle consisted of a flexible apron or made of canvas or a similar material, which had a sag of about an inch and a half in the center, to act as a collection pocket for fine gold. Later rockers (including most modern ones) dispensed with the flexible apron and used a pair of solid wood or metal baffle boards. These are sometimes covered with carpet to trap fine gold. The entire device sits on rockers at a slight gradient, which allows it to be rocked side to side. Today, the rocker box is not used as extensively as the sluice, but still is an effective method of recovering gold in areas where there is not enough available water to operate a sluice effectively. Like a sluice box, the rocker box has riffles and a carpet in it to trap the gold. It was designed to be used in areas with less water than a sluice box. The mineral processing involves pouring water out of a small cup and then rocking the small sluice box like a cradle, thus the name rocker box or cradle. Rocker boxes must be manipulated carefully, to prevent losing the gold. Although big, and difficult to move, the rocker can pick up twice the amount of the gravel, and therefore more gold in one day than an ordinary gold mining pan. The rocker, like the pan, is used extensively in small-scale placer work, in sampling, and for washing sluice concentrates and material cleaned by hand from bedrock in other placer operations. One to three cubic yards, bank measure, can be dug and washed in a rocker per man-shift, depending upon the distance the gravel or water has to be carried, the character of the gravel, and the size of the rocker. Rockers are usually homemade and display a variety of designs. A favorite design consists essentially of a combination washing box and screen, a canvas or carpet apron under the screen, a short sluice with two or more riffles, and rockers under the sluice. The bottom of the washing box consists of sheet metal with holes about 1/2 inch in diameter punched in it, or a l/2-inch-mesh screen can be used. Dimensions shown are satisfactory but variations are possible. The bottom of the rocker should be made of a single wide, smooth board, which will greatly facilitate cleanups. The materials for building a rocker cost only a few dollars, depending mainly on the source of lumber.

Follow us at: https://plus.google.com/+tutorvista/ Check us out at http://chemistry.tutorvista.com An ore is a type of rock that contains minerals with important elements including metals. The ores are extracted through mining, these are then refined to extract the valuable element(s). The grade or concentration of an ore mineral, or metal, as well as its form of occurrence, will directly affect the costs associated with mining the ore. The cost of extraction must thus be weighted against the contained metal value of the rock to determine what ore can be profitably extracted and what ore is of too low a grade to be worth mining. Metal ores are generally oxides, sulfides, silicates, or "native" metals (such as native copper) that are not commonly concentrated in the Earth's crust or "noble" metals (not usually forming compounds) such as gold. The ores must be processed to extract the metals of interest from the waste rock and from the ore minerals. Ore bodies are formed by a variety of geological processes. The process of ore formation is called ore genesis. Important Ore Minerals •Acanthite: Ag2S for production of silver •Barite: BaSO4 •Bauxite Al2O3 for production of aluminium •Beryl: Be3Al2(SiO3)6 •Bornite: Cu5FeS4 •Cassiterite: SnO2 •Chalcocite: Cu2S for production of copper •Chalcopyrite: CuFeS2 •Chromite: (Fe, Mg)Cr2O4 for production of chromium •Cinnabar: HgS for production of mercury •Cobaltite: (Co, Fe)AsS •Columbite-Tantalite or Coltan: (Fe, Mn)(Nb, Ta)2O6 •Galena: PbS •Gold: Au, typically associated with quartz or as placer deposits •Hematite: Fe2O3 •Ilmenite: FeTiO3 •Magnetite: Fe3O4 •Molybdenite: MoS2 •Pentlandite:(Fe, Ni)9S8 •Pyrolusite:MnO2 •Scheelite: CaWO4 •Sphalerite: ZnS •Uraninite (pitchblende): UO2 for production of metallic uranium •Wolframite: (Fe, Mn)WO4 Please like our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/tutorvista

Search for tin, search for Meluhha of Tin-Bronze Revolution video presentation by S. Kalyanaraman, Sarasvati Research Centre (February 2019). The research project proposal has the potential to unravel the chronological history of Bharatiya Civilization from ca. 5th millennium BCE. This will be, in effect, a continuation of the Euro Union project carried out at a cost of Euro 3 million and completed in 2018 -- redefining the role of Hinduised States of Ancient Far East (AFE) in the Tin-Bronze Revolution of Eurasia and redefine the Ancient Maritime Tin Route which linked AFE and Ancient Near East (Europe). Presenting an overview of Epigraphia Indus Script in 3 vols. of over 8000 Inscriptions, evidence is presented for the extensive involvement of Sarasvati's children in advancing the first industrial scale Tin-Bronze revolution in civilizational history and enhancing the Wealth of Nations. In this perspective, the presentation is Economics 101 providing historical, chronological, archaeometallurgical and textual evidence from the Veda to Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. Metaphors of Veda texts point to wealth-creation activities of the knowledge systems presented in the oldest human document, a treasure of knowledge systems, knowledge systems for the commonwealth of treasures, Kubera's navanidhi. Epigraphia Indus Script 3 vols. demonstrate that the 8000 + inscriptions are wealth-accounting ledgers, metalwork catalogues. Surprising evidence of hypertexts from Dong Son and Karen Bronze drums are presented, pointing to the role of Ancient Far East in harnessing the resources of the largest tin belt of the globe in the river basins of Mekong, Irrawaddy and Salween Himalayan rivers which ground down granite rocks to accumulate cassiterite, tin ore placer deposits. It is possible to define an Ancient Maritime Tin Route which linked Ancient Far East to Ancient Near East through Sarasvati civilization people of ancient India. This Tin Route predated Silk Road by two millennia.

Morning Routine and DIY ! In this DIY I show my Morning Routine and 10 epic DIY projects to make your mornings happy and unique. Everyday makeup tutorial, Heatless curls hairstyle, DIY makeup, DIY clothes, healthy recipes, nail art and much more. I wanted to film a Morning routine for school or work, but summer is just around the corner, which means no school or work. So here I show my typical free day morning routine or a summer morning routine. Although summer hasn't yet arrived to where I live to be honest. Anyway, this is a morning routine when I don't have to get up and run out the door, but I can actually sleep a bit longer. Well as you can see in the video that's not always the case, hehe. http://sarabeautycorner.com/ This morning routine is probably different from all other morning routine videos because I also show you 10 amazing DIY ideas that make every morning the best morning ever! I have been trying to eat very healthy lately, so in this morning routine video I show you several easy healthy recipes. I made an easy and delicious smoothie with strawberries, raspberries, banana and some milk. This smoothie is so delicious and done in a second! Other healthy recipes that I show you throughout my morning routine are granola and seed crackers. Both are so easy to make, so tasty and convenient to have for a breakfast or a snack. In the morning routine video I also show you some DIY makeup, specifically a DIY tinted lip balm and DIY beach hair spray. A DIY lip balm consists of only two ingredients that I bet you already have at home. Vaseline and a piece of old lipstick. This DIY lip balm makes my lips moist and soft while it also gives them a nice touch of color. There can't be a morning routine without fixing our hair, right? This time I decided for heatless waves that won't even take a minute of your time. Because who wants to spend a hour on hairstyles ?! Not me hehe. And since this is a morning routine for summer my heatless waves aren't perfect without that summer beachy texture. I show how to quickly make a DIY beach hair spray. Just a few ingredients and you have an awesome spray that gives instant texture and waves to your hairstyles. In the morning routine I also show my workout routine as well. On rainy day I like to do a strength workout but since this weekend the weather was nice, I decided for a cardio workout and went out for a run. Even though I don't wear makeup everyday, I show you my makeup routine for when I do decide to put something on my face. So we can call it my everyday makeup, because whenever I wear makeup, this is the makeup look I go for. Just a very basic natural makeup, that enhances my facial features without making me look overly done. When it comes to clothes, you guys know how I love my DIY projects. So I show how to make awesome DIY shoes and DIY graphic tee. Both so easy, fun to make and gorgeous to look at. For the DIY shoes I stick denim hearts all over my sneakers and they turned out fantastic. DIY graphic tee is made by simply ironing the picture on with the help of a transfer paper. And of course I had to also include an easy and lovely nail art design to my morning routine. Purple nails with colorful dotted accents are an easy way to make a perfect summer nail art in no time. As promised here are the measures I used to make my healthy crackers: one and a half cups of sunflower seeds, quarter of a cup of pumpkin seeds and pines, one cup whole flax seeds, half a cup grounded flax seeds, about five spoons of chia seeds, half a cup of sesame seeds, some almond slices, 5 spoons of psyllium husk and a tea spoon of salt. In the end add 5 decilitres of water. Hope you like my morning routine and definitely let me know if yo want more routine type videos, because I absolutely loved filming it! 700 TONS OF GOLD ore SHIP MISSING: Russian SHIP with 700 TONS of GOLD ore goes MISSING Location: Sea of Okhotsk, Russia October 29, 2012 -Video from RIA Novosti (Видео с Российское агентство международных новостей) A Russian cargo ship has disappeared in the Sea of Okhotsk, carrying 700 tons of gold ore. Three ships, an amphibious aircraft and a helicopter are now searching for the Amurskoe freighter, which set out with eight crewmembers on board. The Novik tanker was the first to arrive at the site where contact with the crew was lost, but no wreckage was found. The rescue operation has been complicated by severe weather, with waves up to four meters high. A Be-200 amphibious aircraft was dispatched from the city of Khabarovsk in Russia's Far East to join the operation. The Emergency Ministry operation continued on Monday morning, with an Mi-8 helicopter and two trawler ships joining the search. Various views of the resque team inside the plane. 00:00-01:07 *** Update: 09 November, 2012, 19:59 Divers recovery body from sunken gold ship, 8 crew still missing Search and rescue divers have recovered a body from the cargo ship "Amurskaya" that sank in the Sea of Okhotsk at the end of October. The search continues for 8 crewmen who were on board the freighter carrying 700 tonnes of gold ore. The ship went down in heavy seas on her way from Kiran to Okhotsk in Russia's Far East carrying a cargo of gold ore worth an estimated quarter of a million dollars. It was more than a week before rescuers spotted an oil slick ten miles off shore marking where the vessel went down. The ship was discovered by dive teams from the Emergencies Ministry lying on her port side in 25 metres of water. An air and sea search was launched looking for the nine man crew despite the extreme weather conditions. Some experts say the chances of the crew being found alive is now very remote. "The vessel, quite possibly, sank immediately, which means all crew members remained on board. The speed with which it sank is attributed to the structure -- initially it was a drag-boat which was remade into a cargo vessel," said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Sailors' Trade Union, Nikolay Sukhanov. However others are not giving up hope. "The storm ladder, absence of people on the bridge, an open door below deck, absence of life rafts all point to the high possibility of the crew attempting to evacuate the sinking vessel," say representatives of the Federal Agency for River and Marine Transport (Rosmorrechflot). Russian daily "Komsomolskaya Pravda" quoted one of the relatives of the missing crew, the daughter of Aleksander Stukalov, saying she believes her father is alive: "we believe our father, he's an experienced sailor, a strong man, he'll survive." A battered life raft was spotted on the coast of an island in the vicinity of the wreck which investigators believe it did come from the freighter. Accident investigators say they have uncovered evidence the "Amurskaya" was overloaded. The ship was carrying 750 tonnes of cargo, even though it was only allowed to carry 610 tonnes. Maritime experts believe the cargo could have shifted in the rough seas sinking the vessel. The owner of the "Amurskaya" has been charged with criminal negligence, leading to the death of two or more persons. The Russian Investigative Committee says Aleksander Shiltsin personally ordered the vessel to leave the loading docks and head out into the stormy seas. Investigators add Shiltsin knew "Amurskaya" was overloaded. Investigators also say the vessel was understaffed, carrying only 9 crew members instead of the 11 prescribed for this type of freighters. .´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ CLICK HERE to view all the Videos/photos we've uploaded: http://www.youtube.com/user/WestEndNews/videos .´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸

The future is here. 360 VR Tour of Inn Town Campground Nevada City CA Glamping tents Instructions on using the video: This is a 360 VR Tour meaning you can look all around the video, up, down, left, right. Simply use your mouse to click and grab the screen to look around. Youtube automatically loads the video in very low resolution. It is up to you to increase the quality by selecting the little gear icon at the bottom right of the video window (hover your cursor over the video and you will see it). If you are viewing this on a mobile device you will need to view it in the Youtube app to get the proper experience. If the video looks wobbly/ weird it means your browser needs to be updated. 360 VR Tour of the Campground Grounds including RV, tent and glaming areas. Inn Town Campground in Nevada City California features full and partial hookup RV sites of varying length and widths, dozens of tent camping sites, and glamping canvas tents all located within a heavily forested setting. Inn Town Campground is essentially a really nice Forest Service campground with luxury amenities included. Adjacent to the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum the campground is easily accessed from the Gold Flat exit on California Highway 49/20. Inn Town Campground provides luxury camping amenities in a down-home and historic setting. The grounds for the park are of historical interest with a preserved location for a Chinese Burial Ground (the remains have been moved back to China), location of the old main line railroad that ran down to Colfax during the late 1800’s/ early 1900’s, and old mining equipment (located along the 1 mile trail to historic downtown Nevada City) including the infamous water cannons used for Placer mining. Inn Town Campground luxury amenities are highlighted by the 3,000 square foot communal building featuring a comfortable reading room, game room, camping store and entertainment area with fireplace and big screen TV. The building also contains a fully stocked kitchen with two refrigerators and multiple dining tables (you bring your own food). On the back side of this building are restroom and shower facilities including two family restroom/ shower rooms. In addition there is a laundry. Outside is a propane powered fire pit, tables and chairs. By spring 2017 a new swimming pool will be added and ready for a refreshing dip. The park was designed to include and keep as much of the natural setting as possible. The campsites and glamping tents are all located at various elevations dependent upon the natural terrain. RV access can be a bit tight for extra large RVs but anything under 40′ will fit. Tent campers have choices between drive up campsites or campsites with short hike-in access (gear carts are available). The glamping canvas tents are located in two areas with the main row sharing a community propane fire pit. A couple additional glamping tents are located a short distance away in a bit more private setting. All glamping tents enjoy fantastic backside patio views overlooking the grounds. As noted earlier there is a foot path that provides walking access to historic Downtown Nevada City. The first 3/8 mile of the path wanders through an old garden and along wooded trails crossing old rail lines. The final distance is along sidewalks adjacent to secondary roads. Nevada City California is best described as a mix of Jackson Hole chic and Key West funkiness all mixed within an authentic gold mining era community. In addition the park also features a community outdoor theater that plays movies in season on weekends, 2 additional bath houses (each with one outdoor shower and a dish cleaning station), and multiple propane powered fire rings. The family friendly environment, natural setting, proximity to town, and immediate access to points of historical interest all combine to make Inn Town Campground one of the more unique camping destination in the United States. The parenting section of the bookstore is overwhelming—it's "a giant, candy-colored monument to our collective panic," as writer Jennifer Senior puts it. Why is parenthood filled with so much anxiety? Because the goal of modern, middle-class parents—to raise happy children—is so elusive. In this honest talk, she offers some kinder and more achievable aims. http://yankeegoldprospecting.com/ Largest Vermont Gold Nugget of the year. Almost unbelievable as to how I found it. Bottom line is it was found crevicing. Crevicing continues to pay off. Specially amazing is the fact that this was my first time to this creek. To find the best nugget of the year on a new brook is awesome. Can't wait to get back there to dig deeper. I invented the Bow Blower, a combination of the bow drill and forge blower to make a device that can force air into a fire while being easy to construct from commonly occurring natural materials using only primitive technology. I began by fanning a fire with a piece of bark to increase its temperature. It is this basic principle I improved on throughout the project. Next, I made a rotary fan from two pieces of bark that slot together at right angles to each other to form a simple 4 bladed paddle wheel about 20 cm in diameter and 5 cm tall. The blades of the fan were not angled and were designed only to throw air outwards away from the axle when spun. The rotor of the fan was made by splitting a stick two ways so it formed 4 prongs. The fan was then inserted into the prongs and the end lashed to hold it in place. Spinning the fan rotor back and forth between the palms of the hands fanned the fire. But only some of the wind generated by the fan reached the fire. The rest of it was blowing in other directions, effectively being wasted. So I built a fan housing from unfired clay to direct the air flow into the fire. This was basically an upturned pot with a hole in the top, a spout coming out of the side. The housing was about 25 cm wide and 8 cm tall. The hole in the top and the spout were both about 6 cm in diameter so that the air coming in roughly equalled the air coming out. The base of the fan rotor sat in a wooden socket placed in the ground to make it spin easier and the top of the rotor protruded from the hole in the top of the housing. Now when the fan spun, air entered the hole in the top of the housing and exited the spout in the side. Importantly, it doesn’t matter which way the fan spins, air always goes into the inlet and out the spout. Air is thrown out towards the walls of the housing and can only leave through the spout while the vacuum in the centre sucks new air into the housing through the inlet. A separate clay pipe called a tuyere was made to fit over the spout to direct air into the coals. This was done because the pipe that touches the fire can melt away so it’s better to make this part replaceable. Instead of making a large wheel and belt assembly to step up the speed of rotation, I opted for a 75 cm long bow. I made a frame to hold the rotor in place consisting of two stakes hammered into the ground with a socketed cross bar lashed on to hold the top of the rotor. I made bark fibre cordage and tied the end to a stick. I then looped the cord around the rotor and held the other end in the same hand holding the stick. I then pushed and pulled the bow causing the rotor to spin rapidly, forcing air into the fire. I made a simple mud furnace for the blower. Then I collected orange iron bacteria from the creek (iron oxide), mixed it with charcoal powder (carbon to reduce oxide to metal) and wood ash (flux to lower the melting point) and formed it into a cylindrical brick. I filled the furnace with charcoal, put the ore brick in and commenced firing. The ore brick melted and produced slag with tiny, 1mm sized specs of iron through it. My intent was not so much to make iron but to show that the furnace can reach a fairly high temperature using this blower. A taller furnace called a bloomery was generally used in ancient times to produce usable quantities of iron and consumed more charcoal, ore and labour. This device produces a blast of air with each stroke of the bow regardless of whether it is pushed or pulled. The bow makes it possible to operate the blower without using a complicated belt and wheel assembly used in traditional forge blowers. There is a brief pause at the end of each stroke where the fan stops to rotate in the other direction, but this is effectively no different to the intermittent blast of a double acting bellows of Europe or box bellows of Asia. The materials used (wood, bark, bark fibre and clay) are readily available on most continents. No leather, valves or precisely fitted piston gaskets are required as with other types of bellows. The cords for this device wear out often so a number of back up cords should be kept handy for quick replacement. In summary, this is an easy to make device that solves the problem of supplying forced combustion air required for high temperature furnaces and forges. How and where to find gold, how and where to find gold, how and where to find gold, how and where to find gold in the Georgia mountains gold-finding-gold Gold and platinum are 15-19 times heavier than other streambed materials and concentrate in low pressure areas and cracks that run across rivers and streams. You look for a crack on the bank, and follow it out until you meet the "gold line" and there you suck it out with your dredge. Gold will be on the outside edge of a river gravel bar, at the head of the bar (large gold but usually beneath big boulders), and at the tail end of a bar (vast concentrations due to river bars forming in the shape of an airfoil and sucking fine gold to the tail end) but be small to microscopic at the tail end. Gold will travel down a river or stream in a line, usually off center of the high pressure water. Gold will settle behind a boulder. A good place to fish, can also be an excellent place to find gold. "Black sand" is iron ore that can be readilly identified in gravel bars and is a ready indicator that gold is probably present. The most effective and economical way for the average person to find paying concentrations of gold in a river or stream is with a simple ($80) sluice that you shovel into and the riffles retain gold, platinum, gems and anything heavy for you. Gold can be found up high on the old river channels and recovered with metal detectors, a gold wheel, a highbanker, or simply by identifying the material, shoveling it in your truck and working it out later in a wheel, or your simple stream sluice. The states which have gold in vast quantities are: Maine, Vermont, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California, Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Oregon. The rest have gold as well, some in very good concentrations. All have gems of some kind that a sluice will seperate and hold. Good luck finding the gold of your dreams!
