LEDSTON LUCK MY STORY PART 1 THE MOVE TO LEDSTON LUCK.

08:47
Ledston Luck pit was sunk in the 1870's and later formed part of the superpit of interlinked workings around Selby. Ledston luck miners where the last to return to work after the miners strike, a year to the day after the National Coal Board (NCB) announced plans to shed 20,000 more jobs in the next financial year. This was due to the Mine manager deciding to stamp his authority on his workers, when they arrived for work after the last day of the stike they found he had chained the gates shut saying he'd decide when they could return to work, not them. Their pit would be closed less than two years later. The two winding Houses were built in 1911 and where among the first to use electric winders, at a time most other mines were still using steam. The Winding Houses are on the English Heritage list of scheduled ancient monuments.

LEDSTON LUCK COLLIERY

02:31
Ledston Luck Colliery between Castleford and Micklefield. Was sunk in 1870 as part of the super pit in the Selby Area. All that remains are The Winding Houses built in 1911 and another building that contained the canteen, now a sandwich shop. The pit linked with the nearby Peckfield Colliery via rail allowing the coal to be transferred to the main line for distribution.

LEDSTON LUCK COLLIERY WINDING HOUSES

15:55
A little suprise for you this week uploading 2 !! Ledston Luck Colliery is now little more than a small industrial park, with only the 2 (East and West) Grade II listed winding houses standing empty and broken. The houses were built in 1911, as dated on the Western house (number 1) with it's slightly tudor style entrance. Died with most of the rest of the coal industry in '86. Everything is gone, but it's still a nice little mooch. A nice reminder of an industry which once put food on the table in many a household Donations to paypal: https://www.paypal.me/exploringwithian All donations/purchases go into travelling costs to bring you even more awesome videos like this....

Gascoigne Wood Coal Processing Plant, the final days Oct 2004 Pt 3

10:28
Going down to floor level between Barrels 2 & 3 under the Barrels to the floor sumps these collected underflow from the screens, centrifuges and excess fines from the Barrels and pumped them into buffer tanks before pumping to the fines treatment section of the plant. A quick look at the Clean Coal Screens, when the large coal was set to be crushed and not sent to the Large Coal DMP the screens had to be manned to prevent wood getting into the sizers and blocking them, tried to rotate the men at hourly intervals as it was a mind numbing job. A view of the inside of the shed from the Solid Bowl Centrifuge feed head box just gives an idea of how much equipment was in there. Had to check this headbox at least 3 times a day. Another stroll along the barrel control floor to the LCDMP and Wemco end of the plant then back along the bottom floor to the Spirals Plant, past the Mozley feed tank and the workshops. Start of a view from the end of the SCDMP dirt belt on the 27 Oct 2004 the last coal coming out of the mine, clip ends, con't on Pt 4
