According to a report by Reuters, earlier this year, the world's two largest lithium producers publicly celebrated deals with Chile's government that will allow them to increase output of the ultralight battery metal from the Atacama desert. The two companies reportedly said they were confident they could significantly boost output without drawing more than their current quotas of lithium-rich brine that has accumulated over millennia in pools beneath the Atacama. Albemarle CEO Luke Kissam told investors in August, “I don’t see any issue with our ability to get (the brine) ... today, tomorrow and throughout the term of that agreement." http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/WgotLM-PbmM/a-water-fight-in-chiles-atacama-raises-questions-over-lithium-mining-idUSKCN1MS1L8 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

With the price of oil expected to climb, there's a growing demand for alternatively fueled vehicles. This has sparked a global interest in the natural resource lithium. It's a key ingredient in rechargeable batteries. An estimated 80 percent of the world's lithium is found in Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. Richard Reynolds reports from Salar de Atacama in Chile, the world's largest lithium producer.

First I thought we should talk about where you can find lithium today. The truth is it’s likely on your body right now, you may be holding it in your hand, or you’re looking directly at it. But you might be surprised to know it’s also used in things like tools, aerospace equipment, military applications and backup storage for our Electric grid. And of course, Tesla’s and other electric cars // Looking to buy a Tesla S or X? Use our referral code and instantly receive $1,000 off and Free Supercharging! (limited) Get Started - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9QapXri9iY // It is so good for batteries that 39% of all Lithium production goes towards battery production. So what is Lithium anyway? Lithium itself is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. It is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. Like all alkali metals, lithium is highly reactive and flammable. So this isn’t something you’d want just laying around your house. Especially if you have a toddler running around like I do... So Lithium is a metal so it must be mined right, like copper? Well, not exactly. It’s true lithium can be mined from rocks but mostly it’s found in brine pools. Lithium is also present in seawater but there aren’t any commercially viable methods of extracting it at this time As an aside when you see a meme floating around the internet showing a giant mine where lithium comes from, it’s a lie. As of 2017, most of the world's lithium production is in South America, where lithium-containing brine is extracted from underground pools and concentrated by solar evaporation. The standard extraction technique is to evaporate water from brine. Each batch takes from 18 to 24 months. With so much demand for lithium it’s a fair question to ask... Are Tesla and others doomed? Well…not really The US Geological Survey’s report for 2017 shows that "Worldwide lithium production increased by an estimated 12% in 2016 in response to increased lithium demand for battery applications. Production in Argentina increased nearly 60%, primarily owing to a new brine operation; the leading Argentine producer also increased production. A producer in Chile reported that its production rose by 20%. Two small Australian spodumene operations, one new and one inactive since 2013, planned to begin commercial concentrate production by year end. Worldwide lithium production capacity was reported to be 49,400 tons in 2015; capacity utilization was estimated to be 64% in 2015 and 71% in 2016. Based on average projections by producers and industry analysists of about 14% growth worldwide, consumption of lithium in 2016 is projected to be about 37,800 tons, up from 33,300 tons in 2015. So the trend is going up, but when you look at the overall picture you find that owing to continuing exploration, lithium resources have increased substantially worldwide. Identified lithium resources in the United States, from continental brines, geothermal brines, hectorite, oil field brines, and pegmatites, have been revised to 6.9 million tons. Identified lithium resources in other countries have been revised to approximately 40 million tons. Identified lithium resources in Argentina and Bolivia are about 9 million tons each and in major producing countries are Australia, more than 2 million tons; Chile, more than 7.5 million tons; and China, approximately 7 million tons. Canada’s lithium resources are about 2 million tons. Congo (Kinshasa), Russia, and Serbia have resources of about 1 million tons each. Lithium resources in Brazil and Mexico are approximately 200,000 tons each and Austria, and Zimbabwe have more than 100,000 tons each. Beyond just producing more lithium, companies like Tesla have focused on creating a closed-loop battery recycling program since as early as 2011. So while Tesla drivetrains are rated to go 1M miles, and the batteries will likely last to last north of 350K miles, once the cars do get turned in, Tesla isn’t going to just throw away those precious metals. If you’re an investor in companies reliant on lithium for their batteries such as Tesla, Apple, Google, or any other company making electronics today, you shouldn’t worry about the supply chain. We’ve got a long road ahead of us and probably by the time we need to worry about a shortage of Lithium we’ll have a new way to make batteries that are even better. // Join Our Community on Patreon! Three Latin American countries contain over half of the planet’s lithium. And demand for the metal is intensifying. Lithium is a light metal used to make batteries. The salt flats of Chile, Bolivia and Argentina hold the bulk of the world’s supply. Now, the production of electric cars is making demand soar. The stunningly beautiful salt flats form a region that has become known as the Lithium Triangle. Demand for lithium is expected to triple by 2025. Companies and governments are eagerly looking to profit from the commodity. And the opportunity it could offer these countries is vast. But there are also environmental concerns and worries about the effect extraction could have on local indigenous communities. Americas Now Correspondent Joel Richards traveled to the region to find out more about what’s been called a white gold rush. The Chinese company Lifan which is based in Uruguay is in discussions to produce electric cars in the region. Companies are also discussing putting electric vehicles on sale this year as well. Lithium is the lightest metal on the periodic table. It’s value has been multiplied by 10 in the last two decades alone. And it’s demand doesn’t stop growing. Between 60 and 80% of the world’s known reserves are in an area called the LITHIUM TRIANGLE. This is an area that covers parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. In these countries, lithium is abundant and easy to extract. In other words, this part of the planet might soon become the new Saudi Arabia. Despite these reserves Bolivia is exporting less lithium than the other two countries. So what’s going on in Bolivia? Why is no one exploiting their lithium resources? And why is Chile following suit? Today, we are going to answer all of those questions. Lithium Australia (ASX:LIT) is a processing technology business with one of its major projects in Germany. The company has also been working on a lithium-ion cathode production facility, entitled the Very Small Particle Company, which has just started producing lithium-ion phosphate. "The Very Small Particle Company, it's capable of producing that material at much finer size than anyone else can, which gives batteries far superior performance" say Lithium Australia managing director Adrian Griffin. The company is also set to deliver some drilling results from its site in Germany and Mr Griffin says the operating costs of the lithium mine should be supported by cash-flow from the tin operation on the same site.

The mine is owned by Rio Tinto Group, an international mining and exploration company headquartered in the United Kingdom. The copper operations at Bingham Canyon Mine are managed through Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation which operates the mine, a concentrator plant, a smelter, and a refinery. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 0.6 miles (0.97 km) deep, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and covering 1,900 acres (770 ha). It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April of 2013 and a smaller slide in September of 2013. Udachnaya was discovered on June 15, 1955, just two days after the discovery of the diamond pipe Mir by Soviet geologist Vladimir Shchukin and his team. It is more than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep, making it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine and Chuquicamata). The nearby settlement of Udachny is named for the deposit. As of 2010, Udachnaya pipe is controlled by Russian diamond company Alrosa, which planned to halt open-pit mining in favor of underground mining in 2010. The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds and an annual production capacity of 10.4 million carats Chuquicamata, or "Chuqui" as it is more familiarly known, is by excavated volume the biggest open pit copper mine in the world, located in the north of Chile, just outside of Calama, 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago. The mine is owned and operated by Codelco, a Chilean state enterprise, since the Chilean nationalization of copper in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its depth of 850 metres (2,790 ft) makes it the second deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA). The Diavik Diamond Mine is a diamond mine in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, about 300 kilometres (190 mi) north of Yellowknife. It has become an important part of the regional economy, employing 700, grossing C$100 million in sales, and producing approximately 7.5 million carats (1,500 kg (3,300 lb)) of diamonds annually. The area was surveyed in 1992 and construction began in 2001, with production commencing in January 2003. It is connected by an ice road and Diavik Airport with a 5,235 ft (1,596 m) gravel runway regularly accommodating Boeing 737 jet aircraft. The Grasberg Mine is the largest gold mine and the third largest copper mine in the world. It is located in the province of Papua in Indonesia near Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain in Papua, and it has 19,500 employees. It is majority owned through a subsidiary by Freeport-McMoRan, which owns 90.64% of PT Freeport Indonesia, the principal operating subsidiary in Indonesia, including 9.36% owned through its wholly owned subsidiary, PT Indocopper Investama. The Government of Indonesia owns the remaining 9.36% of PT Freeport Indonesia. FCX operates under an agreement with the Government of Indonesia, which allows Freeport to conduct exploration, mining and production activities in a 24,700-acre area (Block A). It also conducts exploration activities in an approximate 500,000-acre area (Block B). All of Freeport's proven and probable mineral reserves and current mining operations are located in Block A. The 2006 production was 610,800 tonnes of copper; 58,474,392 grams of gold; and 174,458,971 grams of silver. Lithium Stocks To Buy : Top 3 Lithium Stocks For 2019 (AND BEYOND!) On this channel, we bring you the newest, hottest and most interesting investment opportunities out there But still, there is something that we haven’t been talking enough about on this channel, as a matter of fact, we have never talked about it and that must end now. If you haven’t read the title, I’m talking about lithium. (Lithium Stocks) Now I’ve got our beloved friend Wikipedia over here that claims that lithium is a chemical element with symbol Li and atomic number 3. It is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. Under standard conditions, it is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium#Uses But if you’re just a simple human like me and all of us over here at BABY you’re probably asking yourself why you should care about what Lithium is. Because you’re probably holding some lithium right now. Where? Inside the battery of that little device, you call a mobile phone. And why is that thing inside my battery? Because lithium-ion batteries have a high energy density. But it doesn’t stop there, it’s not only smartphones, but I’m also talking laptops, tablets, etc. Even our beloved Tesla run on lithium-based batteries. Or in other words, you come in touch with devices that run on lithium-based batteries on an hourly basis. On Wikipedia.com you’ll also see that 35% of all lithium is being used for batteries 32% ceramics and glass something else you touch on a daily basis, 9% for lubricating greases some of it for pharmaceuticals and so on and so on, the diagram is available for you to see if you need it (just ask in the comments!) BUT. That’s not what we’ll be focusing on. We’ll be focusing mostly on the technological side of things. Because while we over here at BABY see an increasing demand for lithium-based batteries in the future, that’s not what the market thought this year. A lot of the lithium stocks that you’ll see have been suffering these last 52 weeks and that makes them quite risky as you never know if the knife will continue falling or not. BUT however, we’ll just lay out some facts for you on the top 3 lithium stocks that we like the most and after that you get to do the full research by yourself as we are not your financial advisors. But because of the whole industry being beaten down so badly in the last 52 weeks we can now stop searching for the riskier smaller lithium stocks and just concentrate on big, stable companies that already know their place in the industry, and as a matter of fact the 3 companies that we have in this video are called the big 3. - Lithium stocks for 2019 #1: Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (NYSE: SQM) - Lithium stocks for 2019 #2: Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB) - Lithium stocks for 2019 #3: FMC Corp (NYSE: FMC) Disclaimer 1: This is not official legal advice, results are not promised, and every individual should take their own decision based on their own experience and knowledge as results may differ between individuals. Disclaimer 2: By the time you're watching this video we may own shares of companies mentioned in this video, and do proclaim that this is NOT a speculative video. For a number of reasons, including the fact that it is the lightest metal, lithium is considered one of the most important minerals worldwide. Latin American countries have one of the biggest reserves of this mineral in the world. In fact, Argentina, Bolivia and Chile represent the so-called “lithium triangle”, which are home to almost two thirds of global lithium reserves. The market for lithium has been particularly lively and active transactions in Argentina have led to a boom in the last two years. Leonardo Rodríguez, partner at the law firm Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal, describes in detail the growth of the lithium industry in Argentina and explains why it has become one of the most attractive sectors for investment in the country.

Argentina is, alongside with Chile and Bolivia, one of the three countries that make up the so-called LITHIUM TRIANGLE. The area where between 60 and 80% of the world lithium reserves are concentrated. So today’s question is… What happened to this country which improved their image in such a short time? Can they really become the leader of this lithium race? And most important of all… Can lithium turn Argentina into a new Abu Dhabi? June 6, 2018 – "Every single brine asset in the world is visible from outer space. Everyone knows where they are. You are competing with everyone. There is no way you have a competitive advantage in terms of finding these things because everyone knows where they are. Your competitive advantage is in understanding the paradigm shift that is happening in the world first, picking a jurisdiction where you have competitive advantage and then basically hitting it with full force." states Tim McCutcheon, President of Wealth Minerals Ltd. (TSXV: WML | OTCQX: WMLLF), in a recent presentation at the 7th Annual InvestorIntel Summit – Buds, Batteries & Blockchain 2018. Tim McCutcheon: We will go through obviously the disclaimers and forward looking statements. The key thing about Wealth Minerals and, again, I think in the interest of time in having it be a little more focused, I have a tendency to skip around a little bit so please forgive me on that, but the idea really is to give you an understanding of what Wealth Minerals is and where we are going. The company has been around for a while obviously, but its current form in terms of being involved in the lithium space, started about 2 years ago. Market cap, anywhere between $150 and $170 million dollars. As I am sure you are probably aware that the volatility in the lithium market right now is quite high, lithium equity market, so things are moving all over the place. In general we are well north of a $100 million dollar market cap, which means that we are already getting interest from institutional investors and, sort of, out of the retail space and now into the institutional space. Four lithium projects, all of them in Chile. I think the key thing that we like to present about ourselves is, Chile as jurisdiction is a great place to be. It is a mining friendly place. It has a proven track record of over decades of being fair to investors, being stable, both on a macro level, on a fiscal level. It is not a country you go to wake up the next morning and find something horrible happened in newspapers. It is a fairly predictable place. As far as our team goes we have an unparalleled ability to operate within Chile in part because of the track record of the team. Our country manager is Marcelo Awad. He was the CEO at Antofagasta, one of the world’s largest copper mining companies and he was an Executive Vice President at Codelco, which is a state mining company for Chile, obviously a major player in that country. There are a bunch of other reasons as well, but, again skipping on. As a timeline, as we just spoke about, about 2 years ago the company got started in the lithium space. Our basic idea was to put together a platform. That platform was put together in the beginning of 2016. Use that platform to acquire assets. Again, what I mentioned in the panel a little bit earlier, the lithium space, at least in where we are focused, which is South America a triangle for salars, brine assets. Every single brine asset in the world is visible from outer space. Everyone knows where they are. You are competing with everyone. There is no way you have a competitive advantage in terms of finding these things because everyone knows where they are. Your competitive advantage is in understanding the paradigm shift that is happening in the world first, picking a jurisdiction where you have competitive advantage and then basically hitting it with full force...to access the complete presentation, click here Disclaimer: Wealth Minerals Ltd. is an advertorial member of InvestorIntel Corp.
