Fracking explained: opportunity or danger

05:04
Fracking explained in five minutes. Fracking is a controversial topic. On the one side the gas drilling companies, on the other citizen opposed to this drilling method. Politicians are also divided on the matter. We try to take a neutral look on fracking. It is relevant for all of us, because of high prices for energy and the danger for our drinking water. This video focuses mostly on the debate currently ongoing in europe. In a lot of european countries there is a public outcry against fracking, espacially in germany. But the facts in this video are relevant to all of us. Short videos, explaining things. For example Evolution, the Universe, Stock Market or controversial topics like Fracking. Because we love science. We would love to interact more with you, our viewers to figure out what topics you want to see. The Ogallala Aquifer

05:38
Farmers in Kansas and other states that sit atop the Ogallala aquifer -- the largest freshwater aquifer in North America -- are pumping out water for crop irrigation far faster than natural seepage of rainwater can replenish it. Scientist David Hyndman from Michigan State University is helping develop a plan to better manage this vital resource for sustainable farming.

According to Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).80 percent of irrigation water and 98 percent of drinking water is collected from underground sources. Dr. Eftekharul Alam, said (Agriculture, Water and Environment Engineer of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation -BADC.) Water table of groundwater is declining rapidly due to its excessive use for irrigation in agriculture sector, which causes salinity water intrusion, posing a serious thereat to the ecosystem and biodiversity of the southern part of the country. On the other hand according to Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA), its total water production of 87 percent is groundwater and 12 percent is surface water. Managing director of Wasa mr, Taksim a Khan said , some of area of Dhaka city is now under treat of water mining. Dr. Eftekharul Alam said "Over mining of groundwater of Dhaka city and Gazipur (a district beside the capital) regions have accelerated the speed of these intrusions. Causes and effects of water pollution

01:17
Water is a  basic resource that  guarantees the life of all living beings on the planet. However, its scarcity and pollution cause millions of people to have poor access to this much-needed asset. Although there are processes such as water treatment or desalination that facilitate its treatment, use and consumption in areas with quality or supply problems, it is first necessary to avoid its contamination. In this video we show you what are the main causes of water pollution, as well as its effects. Plastic bottles & Deep State WATER AGENDA | The Unavoidable Water Crisis [Part 2/2] 2018

21:43
Water is life. Water is power. Water has become the new oil. [Part one here: http://bit.ly/WaterCrisis1 Sadly, it’s becoming an increasingly scarce resource across the globe through overuse and pollution? But who really controls the water we drink? Also what about the bottled water we drink, is it safer than tap water or is it really a money making conspiracy draining small American towns of its own water supply. A deep dive into the planet’s water situation reveals that in the coming decades, every country, including the United States, will have to determine how to treat water as an economic good, a human right, and a depleting resource. As these issues become more acute, tensions have already begun to escalate but who is really behind this? Primitive Technology: Cord drill and Pump drill

08:24
I made a cord drill and then upgraded it to a pump drill. A cord drill is basically a spindle with a fly wheel attached so it looks like a spinning top. the middle of a piece of cord is then put into a notch at the top of the spindle. The ends of the cord are then wrapped around the spindle and then pulled quickly outwards causing the drill to spin. The momentum of the fly wheel causes the cord to wrap back around the spindle in the other direction. When it stops the cords are pulled outwards again and the drill spins in the other direction. I made the first one with a stone flywheel then made fire with it in the same way I make fire with fire sticks. Then I made and fired some clay fly wheels, made another drill with one of the fly wheels and fitted a stone drill bit to the end. This one I use for drilling holes in wood. I used the new drill to make a hole in a piece of wood. I then put the spindle of the original cord drill through the hole in the wood, tied the ends of the cord onto the piece of wood and it became a pump drill. The cords were wrapped round the spindle as normal but now a pumping action of the wooden cross bar created the same action. This was an interesting project. For fire making I'd stick to fire sticks because the equipment is easier to make. But for people with soft hands they could use the cord drill as it won't give them blisters. It should be added that the pump drill actually took longer than the cord drill (cord: 32 seconds, pump 1 min 30 seconds -the pump drill scene was edited down to make it watchable). The pump drill had more moving parts and was constantly having problems. As a fire making method I'd choose the cord drill over the pump drill unless all the parts were well made. The main purpose I'd use these tool for is drilling holes rather than fire making. It was reasonably good but the stone bits I made could be improved and their attachment to the shaft also needs some thought. If the bit loosens and gets off axis slightly the whole thing wobbles. These drills are impressive inventions and show potential for carpentry use later on. Making groundwater visible

01:04:17
In this webinar we show you how the Bureau's Groundwater Information Suite improves the visibility of this vital resource using comprehensive, nationally consistent groundwater information from across Australia. Groundwater is a major source of water for many urban and rural communities, as well as industry and agriculture—in some places it is the only source. Groundwater also sustains many rivers and wetlands in dry periods. Groundwater is a largely hidden resource and is much harder to measure.

Realistic Planets! New Biomes, Configurable Worlds! Rimworld Mod Showcase

05:52
Realistic Planets for Rimworld 1.0 is here, configurable planets, new biomes and the like. It's awesome. Really. 'What It Does: (1) Planet Creation. The "Create World" page has been altered. First, you can now select "coverage" anywhere from 5% to 100%, in 5% increments, instead of having to choose between just 30%, 50% and 100%. Second, there's a new "sea level" slider, which determines the amount of ocean coverage your world will have. You can create anything from watery worlds with only a few small continents to barren rocks with no surface water at all. The "rainfall" slider is now a relative rather than an absolute setting, as a planet's overall rainfall is influenced by its sea level. A "high" rainfall level on an arid planet, after all, will for obvious reasons be rather less than even a "low" rainfall level on a planet with extensive oceans. Additionally, the "temperature" settings have been "stretched," so that cold planets are colder than in vanilla, and hot planets are hotter, by up to about 15 degrees C at the ends of the scale. The mod also adds a set of "world type" options from which you can select. These are simply shortcuts to sets of slider settings intended to allow you to quickly and easily create planets predominantly characterized by particular biomes. Finally, the "reset" button at the bottom of the screen has been replaced with a "random planet" button, which will immediately generate a world with randomly-selected sea level, rainfall and temperature settings. (It will not, however, alter your selected coverage setting, as that can impact game performance.) (2) Biomes. "Realistic Planets" fixes a few oddities in biome placement, mostly involving arid shrublands and deserts. Arid shrublands are described as semi-arid regions that surround deserts, yet in vanilla, they're placed in areas that are warm enough, but not rainy enough, to be rainforests. And deserts... well, in the vanilla game, any tile that's not rainy enough to be forest and not cold enough to be tundra, becomes desert. The mod limits deserts to areas where the combination of temperature and rainfall makes deserts likely to actually exist, and moves arid shrublands to regions of the globe surrounding those newly-limited deserts. To fill in the gaps created by those changes, as well as to add a bit more variety, "Realistic Planets" adds several new biomes: - Grasslands, as the name suggests, are areas where the vegetation is dominated by grasses and shrubs. The soil is fertile, but there is little protection from the elements. - Steppes are high-altitude grassland regions. A steppe may be semi-desert or covered with grass or shrubs or both, depending on the season and latitude. - Savannas are mixed woodland/grassland ecosystems typically found between rainforests and deserts. Though savannas are more forested than grasslands, their trees are still spaced widely enough that sufficient light reaches the ground to support an unbroken layer of grasses. Despite the abundance of plants, the soil is mostly dry, and a wide variety of animals roam the area searching for food and water. - Temperate deserts are cooler but often even drier than subtropical deserts. Vegetation is sparse, and the ground is typically more rocky than sandy. - Oases are vibrant, isolated bits of life and color. In even the harshest of deserts, after all, groundwater occasionally manages to make it to the surface, and where it does, life blooms. Plants grow around small ponds, and animals gather in search of water and shade. - Permafrost exists on the border between tundra and ice sheets. The ground is permanently frozen, and much of it is covered in ice, but the ice is at most a few meters, rather than kilometers, thick. There is little vegetation beyond scrub brush, and few animals. (Yes, this is the same as the biome from my "Permafrost" mod. "Realistic Planets" doesn't include that mod's water freezing mechanic, but the mods can be used together, if you want your lakes and rivers to freeze in cold weather.) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thank you to those who support me on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/barky Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/Barky Merch: https://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/barkyy/ Discord: https://discord.gg/CRHuZxR Twitter: https://twitter.com/BarkyStreams Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BarkyStreams Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BaRKy Snapchat: BarkyPlays Free First Uber Ride Code: adamb11695ue Subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/BaRKy Thank you to my awesome patrons, you have no idea how much I appreciate it: Patoos, Sole, Robb, Daedelus, Miko, Gerrit - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mod Link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1571623829

Fukushima, Radioactive Waste, & The Wigner Effect

01:42:43
On this edition of DTRH Popeye breaks down, in an easy to understand manner, the reality of our current nuclear problems. In the first hour he covers in detail: The ongoing problems of nuclear waste storage; What nuclear waste actually consists of, and The Wigner Effect. In hour number two he is joined by special guest co-host Christina Consolo aka RadChick. Christina covers Wigner a little more in depth, and then her and Popeye delve into the current situation with the ongoing nuclear clusterf**k that is the Fukushima Daiichi Nuke Facility. One of the most dire problems at the moment is the massive amounts of radioactive groundwater now seeping up into the plant and the surrounding land, which they cover in depth. In the last section of the show the two of them offer hope with solutions for what seems to be a no win situation. Make sure to take the time to hear this important broadcast, and share it as much as you can. Enterprising Research: How we can recycle common agricultural waste products

01:40
Dr Gary Owens and his team explore how common agricultural products, such as rice straw, can be recycled to produce filters for water treatment. Rice harvest waste (millions of tonnes In Asia each year) is often dumped or burned onsite, the burning causing severe seasonal air pollution. Many of these sites also have groundwater contamination issues. Michael Cremo: "Forbidden Archaeology" | Talks at Google

01:06:10
Michael A. Cremo Historian of Archeology Abstract: Over the past two centuries, archaeologists have found bones, footprints, and artifacts showing that people like ourselves have existed on earth for many millions of years. But many scientists have forgotten or ignored these remarkable facts. Why? Primarily because they contradict the now dominant evolutionary views about human origins and antiquity. According to these views, humans like ourselves have existed for only about 100,000 or 200,000 years, and before that there were only more primitive human ancestors. This evolutionary paradigm, to which influential groups of scientists are deeply committed, has acted as a "knowledge filter." And the filtering, intentional or not, has left us with a radically incomplete set of facts for building our ideas about human origins. Recovering the complete set of facts takes us on a fascinating expedition, across five continents to various archaeological sites, some long forgotten, some the center of ongoing controversy. On the other hand, the complete set of facts is consistent with the accounts of extreme human antiquity found in the Puranas, the historical writings of ancient India. Bio: Michael A. Cremo is research associate in history of archeology. He is a member of the World Archaeological Congress (WAC) since 1993. His WAC3 paper "Puranic Time and the Archaeological Record" was published in the Routledge One World Archaeology series volume Time and Archaeology (1999), edited by Tim Murray. He is also a member of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA). In 2004 Cremo's paper "The Later Discoveries of Boucher de Perthes at Moulin Quignon and Their Impact on the Moulin Quignon Jaw Controversy," presented at the XXth International Congress for History of Science, Liege, Belgium, was published in a conference proceedings volume of this congress, by the scientific publisher Brepols. Cremo is the principal author of the book Forbidden Archeology, a comprehensive historical survey of archaeological anomalies. In a review in British Journal for History of Science, Tim Murray said the book "provides the historian of archaeology with a useful compendium of case studies in the history and sociology of scientific knowledge, which can be used to foster debate within archaeology about how to describe the epistemology of one's discipline." Cremo is particularly interested in examining the history of the archeology from the standpoint of alternative worldviews, particularly worldviews with foundations in ancient Indian thought. He has given invited lectures on his work at the Royal Institution in London, the anthropology department of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, the archeology department of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and many other scientific institutions. He has also lectured on his work at universities throughout the world.

Dasapta Erwin Irawan Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology, Institut Teknologi Bandung [email protected] Adhi Priyambodho Civil Engineering and Port Innovation TU Delft, The Netherlands Abstract - Research design has been a major problem for early career researcher, especially PhD students. This paper discusses new approach to assist a researcher choosing their research topic based on previous papers/studies. Here we use open source tools (Vosviewer and Zotero reference manager) to visualize research topic under keywords "groundwater Jakarta" from close to 256 papers harvested from Google Scholar and Crossref scientific database. Using this approach we can identify the change of main research issues in groundwater resources from the 70’s to date. We also see the research flow path during the period and determine new interesting subtopics. Based on the result we believe that this technique is applicable for postgraduate students Keywords—topic modeling, data visualization, reference manager, open source, groundwater This is my first close up video so I may have messed it up a bit :)

Environmental Mitigation: Problems and Challenges

01:03:06
“A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people”- F. Roosevelt. Environment Mitigation means to make less harsh or elimination, reduction or control of the adverse environmental impacts. How can we eliminate the upcoming problems? Proper Irrigation management can help a lot as India is one of the second largest worldwide in agriculture field and we have 13.7% GDP from Agriculture so proper Irrigation is required to prevent waterlogging and salinization of soil. It can be done by proper management and placement of drainage system. As we are now having less land in urban areas so we can even switch to Vertical Forest (Started in Italy, China etc.) and even plant indoor air purifying plants like Spathiphyllum sp., Chlorophytum sp. etc. Even in India proper disposal of chemicals facilities from the lab are not available and students directly dump chemicals into the sink which ultimately mix with our ecological cycle and cause a major loss and threat to species. Duckweeds could be a good candidate for the phytoremediation of water polluted with Heavy metals and even help in environmental mitigation. Major problems and challenges in Mitigation is Cost Management, Education of people, impacts factors need to understand beforehand so that other problems don’t occur like in Western Canada. As we know that we cannot eliminate industry and say that it is one of the major roots of everything. The industry is now integral part and backbones of our life we have to learn to tackle the problem how to go for sustainable management of these things. We also need to think of another alternative plan beforehand so that it is too late. A clean environment is considered to be a basic requirement for human health and is included by United Nations as one of the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular, SDG 11 (UN, 2015). https://youtu.be/mTRHqqqupy4

Meaderville Montana Landscape ~ Berkeley Pit Begins 1960

02:53
Landscape footage of Meaderville, an historic neighborhood of Butte Montana. Shot in the late 1950's to early 1960's, this footage also shows the beginning of the Berkeley Pit then owned by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company. Less than a few years after this footage was taken, the Pit completely destroyed Meaderville. The film was originally shot by Emma Perotto, a life long Butte/Meaderville resident who is now deceased. The film format was Regular 8mm Kodachrome. Emma was an extended family member. She gave me this footage in 2009. In 2010, Leading Edge Video Productions did a pro bono (Thanks!) film to video transfer of the footage. It is copyright free and may be downloaded for non-profit/educational use.

The Art and Science of Dowsing (2/7)

10:01
Listen or download the podcast at http://itsrainmakingtime.com/2011/gladysmccoy/ If you've ever wished for a tool to help you quickly find objects, you've come to the right place. In this show, we discuss dowsing, an ancient and very effective practice that can help a person find lost objects, water wells, and more! The most well-known applications include using a forked tree branch (called a divining rod) to locate water well sites, or using a pendulum to access higher knowledge and guidance. However, the success of large-scale real world dowsing applications reveal its potential as a valuable solution for humanity's water resources. Former guest Bill Cox and his mentor and dowsing pioneer Verne Cameron used dowsing to locate the primary water source that restored Lake Elsinore after a decade of drought. Dowsing has been used to find lost objects, locate oil and other commodities, pinpoint mining and treasure hunting sites, and find missing persons. Veteran dowser Gladys McCoy, the co-founder of the Ozark Research Institute (ORI), appears on It's Rainmaking Time!™ to share her insight into this ancient science and explain the many practical uses of dowsing and her work at the ORI. If you are looking for advanced and highly efficient problem-solving tools to help you work with speed during this age of uncertainty, tune in.

Title: Natural Resource Depletion Topic: Causes, Oil Depletion, Deforestation, Wetland Depletion Specific Purpose Statement: To inform about the causes of different types of natural resource depletion Thesis Statement: There are many causes to natural resource depletion such as oil depletion, deforestation, and wetland depletion. Introduction: Our natural resource supply is continuously decreasing as time goes by. The world is currently experiencing severe deforestation, wetland depletion, and oil depletion. There are several causes to the depletion of the world’s resources. I. Causes A. Overpopulation 1. 7 billion people in the world 2. demand on resources constantly increasing B. Agricultural uses 1. Causes deforestation 2. Using water as a resource 2. Ogallala Aquifer depletion i. 2 feet of water loss from 2011-13 C. Mining of minerals and oil 1. Nonrenewable resources constantly being used 2. Acid drainage from extractions, rain falling causes sulphuric acid to form II. Deforestation 1. Permanent destruction of forests to make land available 2. 18 million acres of forests are lost each year 3. Contributes to global climate change 4. Releases carbon dioxide into the air 5. Loss of habitat i. Species extinction 6. Soil erosion i. Can lead to silt entering water sources, decreasing water quality III. Wetland Depletion A. Over 220 millions of acres of wetlands, over half of them gone B. Drained and changed to farmland C. Wetlands filter any water that would directly run into a water system i. Loss in wetlands cause change in water chemistry IV. Oil Depletion A. Peak Oil 1. Maximum rate of extraction, expected to enter terminal decline 2. Depletion rates vary from 2% per year to 20% per year 3. Out of 42 largest oil producing countries, 30 have passed their peaks Conclusion: Our nation is causing our natural resources to deplete. There are many actions that cause our source of resources to deplete, and because of those actions, we are now experiencing and dealing with deforestation, wetland depletion, and oil depletion.
