Are Hermès ties really worth it? Find out here https://gentl.mn/is-it-worth-it-hermes Also, stay tuned for our guide on how to spot a fake Hermès tie. Spot the differences between a fake and a genuine Hermes tie: https://gentl.mn/2NqLLkJ SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Monkey's Fist Knot Cufflinks - https://gentl.mn/2QIzJpr 2. Pocket Square with Monogram Initial Classic White Irish Linen - https://gentl.mn/2NW9X2p 3. Light Blue Veronica Persica Boutonniere - https://gentl.mn/2NWbUMm 4. Navy and Yellow Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2xBURVF More of our IS IT WORTH IT Series, here: https://gentl.mn/2JhCF8u #hermes #ties #isitworthit In a world of iconic menswear, men's ties are certainly up there with the Burberry trench coat which by the way, you want to know if a Burberry trench coat is worth it or not , please check out this video here. Generally, you know you're doing something right even an entire industry is here to fake your products and that's the case with Hermès ties. Finding a used one is almost like a gamble if you don't know what to look for and stay tuned for another video where we discuss how you can identify a fake Hermes tie from a genuine one. For this video, we'll assume you buy one directly from Hermes so you know what you get is the real deal. In the US, Hermes ties have a price tag of a $180. In Europe, it's a little less. In Australia, it's a little more but overall, it's right around that price point. So are Hermès ties worth it? Of course, the answer is it depends! If you're someone who really likes printed whimsical motifs, these little animal prints then Hermès is definitely the way to go. Also, if you're looking for more unusual colors such as fuchsia ties or chartreuse green maybe some orange tones, Hermès will likely have a shade that you can get. Also, if you're a Wall Street banker or if you work in finance and you want to fit in with your company culture, an Hermès tie is certainly the way to do that. That being said, personally, I'm not a big fan of whimsical motifs on ties and I prefer different textures so Hermès ties are not the ideal tie for me. I have a bunch of them including vintage ones and new ones but frankly, I don't wear them a whole lot anymore. The ones I wear the most are probably the woven ties, they are somewhat simple and don't look like a typical Hermès tie. With many other luxury products, you pay a lot for the name but you get average to mediocre quality. On the other hand with an Hermès tie, you certainly pay for the name but you also get a quality product. On top of that, genuine Hermès ties usually yield quite high prices even when they're used. Of course, they have to be in pristine condition which ties rarely are if you actually wear them and on top of that, you have to prove that it's actually a genuine product which can be very hard unless you have the specific receipt with a photo of the tie. Of course, if you give all the Hermès ties you don't want any longer to a store, they have to mark them up and ultimately, you don't get much for used Hermes ties anyways. Also if you're shorter than 6 foot or 183 centimeters, Hermes ties may be too long for you and all you can do is tie a really big knot which may often not work with your head size. Also if you're really a tall man and you want more variety in your ties, Hermès is not the right place for you. I also think they're not worth buying used unless you know very well what you're doing, otherwise you may pay top dollar for what turns out to be a fake. Personally, I also like ties to have different widths, my favorite width is about nine centimeters or three and a half inches, and it's not a niche served by Hermes at all. Building up an entire Hermes tie collection can be rather expensive. If you buy 12 ties you're already down more than $2,000. Now they certainly use high quality materials including their silk but when I was looking for silks for our Fort Belvedere ties, I met Weavers who would actually produce jacquard woven silks for Hermes and we get ourselves from the same vendor at the same quality standards yet Fort Belvedere ties cost a lot less especially if you buy more and get the volume discount. Hermes on the other hand doesn't offer any volume discount. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Find out what we think of the Baracuta G9 Harrington Jacket: https://gentl.mn/baracuta-g9-harrington-jacket More of our IS IT WORTH IT? videos, here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwC33qrNZRbBw-Swzxjnye3P4O1jhxXDy Want to stay updated? Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Dark Navy Blue and Royal Blue - https://gentl.mn/2XQMP6O 2. Driving Gloves in Lamb Nappa Leather - https://gentl.mn/2UUFTDH So other than famous people wearing it, what exactly makes it so special? It simply is a waist long jacket that is quite fitted and has a pleasing silhouette. It comes in many different materials but the classic is a cotton poly blend which is 50% cotton 50% polyester. It's meant to be water resistant and weather resistant and therefore, it's not as soft to the touch as the inside which is 80% cotton and 20% polyester. Baracuta sells the g9 jacket in a range of options including suede leather, regular leather, camouflage, and teddy bear fabric. Sometimes you can also find them in tweed but frankly, the classic jacket is always the poly cotton blend which is what we're reviewing here today. The classic g9 generally has a solid outside color even though you can find it with patterns and stuff like camouflage these days. On the inside, you usually find a plaid or a tartan out of green, red, blue, and white which is also known as a Fraser tartan. It feels quite soft, breathable, and comfortable just like the cotton ribs on the end of the sleeves and the waist. When you walk, you can hear your arms rubbing a bit on the shell but it's by no means as loud as the Canada Goose jacket The classic g9 version features angled side pockets with a flap and a button closure, the more modern interpretations have snap buttons. The size I'm wearing in the video is a 42 which is pretty much true to size. It really isn't too big such like a Barbour Beaufort. I was positively surprised by the length of the sleeves in a size 42 which is much better than on all the Barbour waxed jackets we reviewed. Just like the iconic Burberry trench coat or the Barbour waxed jackets, the Baracuta g9 features a Raglan sleeve because it is better to let the water roll off. The front zipper is a double metal zipper from YKK and it works quite well. Modern Baracuta g9 jackets are made of a shell fabric called Coolmax which is supposed to be very breathable and also water repellent. Today, the jackets are made in England but that wasn't always the case. There was a time it was outsourced to Asia and other countries but they brought it back to England for good measure. Looking at the seams, they all have a very high stitch density, they're straight and sewn very close to the edge so the workmanship, overall, is very good. Overall, the garment feels very well made even though the YKK zippers are not the best ones on the market. Baracuta also pays attention to details, for example, if you look at the buttons, you can see the engraving Baracuta g9 and 1937 which was the year it was designed. So now the big question, is the Baracuta g9 Harrington jacket worth it? While $390 are not a bargain for a casual jacket that you will mostly wear during spring or fall season, I still think there is a place for it in your wardrobe. First of all, it comes in a really large range of colors but it also has a very pleasing slim modern cut, even though it was designed in 1937, Frankly, before I bought one, I didn't anticipate liking it as much as I do now. Of course, the fact that James Dean and Steve McQueen wore it is certainly not detracting from it. At the same time, I'm more focused on the materials themselves and I'm really pleased with the length of the sleeves which is often something I find challenging because I have above-average long arms. So in conclusion, I think the Baracuta g9 Harrington jacket is worth its money even at the retail price level for almost any man out there interested in classic men's clothing and even more casual clothing because it is a more casual jacket.

An additional tip - when you have to weave your thread a long distance pop a needle on both ends and start in the middle weaving out in both directions. By doing this you will reduce the fraying that will occur when working the thread. For further tutorials, tip and tricks please visit our website - https://hands-across-the-sea-samplers.com/

This is a short description of the oil painting palette I have used for more than 30 years. I love using a large palette so I can mix paints without needing to scrape the colors off too often. For me, mixing the colors in large piles and modifying the piles for warmer and cooler allows me to keep a stronger harmony in my paintings. I also like a white palette because I can see the exact hues and values of my colors better - or maybe I'm just used to it. My method of oil painting is not like the formula paintings Bob Ross created that so many artists around the world have come to love. My painting style is based on principles professional artists use like abstract color shapes, edge quality for greater realism, shadow and highlight, color theory or convincing color relationships and establishing correct values throughout the painting. The full art video contains voice over instruction and shows every brushstroke of the painting process. Join the Master Oil Painting Monthly Membership and view full length instructional videos with hours of fine art instruction. Learn more: https://www.masteroilpainting.com/monthly-member-trial/ And because I love my YouTube folks, you get a free 7 day trial so you can watch each of the more than 20 full-length videos. After the trial you will then get a 30% discount going forward with access to all of the videos, plus a new video every month! Most of my landscape painting is alla prima or wet on wet and created from plein air studies, imagination and digital reference photos. For more than 30 years he has been selling his work through galleries around the country as a full time artist. He is classically trained with 5 years of figure and head drawing from the model; advanced pastel, watercolor and oil painting from life and holds an MFA in studio painting. He is a recipient of the Congressional Art Award, has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine and has his work in collections around the world. These colors and techniques generally apply equally well with oil or acrylic paint. Benefits & Drawbacks of buying vintage clothing: https://gentl.mn/vintage-buying-guide Want to stay updated? Sign up here for free: https://gentl.mn/2F4OH49 Want to see more videos? Subscribe to our channel! https://www.youtube.com/user/thegentlemansgazette --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gentleman's Gazette https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/ https://gentl.mn/2UA3ri8 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gentlemansgazette FREE EBOOK: https://gentl.mn/2F4OH49 #vintagebuying #vintageclothing #notsponsored A Comprehensive breakdown of the pros and cons of buying vintage menswear starting first with the positives.: Firstly, you'll be able to find garments in styles that aren't commonly produced or available any more. If you do find garments like these, they'll allow you to stand out even from other well-dressed men. Next, prices are often just a fraction of what you would pay for something new especially if you're shopping in places like Goodwill, for example. Also, our founder, Sven Raphael Schneider has had good luck purchasing things at European flea markets especially in the off seasons. Also, vintage garments can generally be tailored just as easily as something new. This depends on the individual garment of course and whether it's got excess fabric to let out or remove. In a similar vein, older methods of clothing construction were often more durable both in terms of the raw materials used and in the detail of human construction. Another plus by shopping at a consignment store or similar establishment, you'll be supporting your local economy rather than some giant corporation. In a similarly conscious frame of mind, buying vintage garments is a particularly green way to shop since you're essentially recycling old garments and giving them a new lease on life. Here's another cost-conscious point about vintage, you might not actually have to buy at all. For example, if you've got older relatives who are looking to downsize their wardrobes, family heirlooms like watches, for example, or friends who just know that you're on the lookout for vintage items, you might be able to come up with some vintage finds at no cost to you. Finally in the positives category, buying and wearing vintage provides a great conversation starter for those who might be especially curious about what you're wearing. So as you can see, there are a lot of potential positives when shopping for vintage menswear. With that said though, you should also be aware that there can be some potential downsides: Firstly, you might not always find the size you need especially if you're a larger man in terms of both height and weight. The average man has just gotten bigger around the world in the last 100 years. As such, if you're looking for vintage garments, you might not always find something in your size. On a similar sizing note, tags and labels on vintage garments can be misleading as sizes for certain types of garments have changed somewhat over the last 100 years or so. Here's a drawback you may already have thought of, some vintage clothing may have issues with odors, stains, or other damage, however, even if this is the case, there are workarounds available to you. Speaking of damage, though that is another potential downside, if you do damage a vintage piece irreparably or lose it for that matter, you might not be able to find another one quite like it. That old item you found might truly be one-of-a-kind at this point or at least rare enough to basically be such. Now regarding pricing, while many vintage shops and online retailers will often be offering things for great prices, there is the occasional chance that a seller might be trying to overcharge you after all. And while the online space is becoming more crowded, physical storefronts are becoming a bit more scarce. So if you'd like to go that route, you'll probably have to put in a bit of additional time to scout out locations in your area. Another potential downside to physical locations is that they may sometimes have poor fitting room conditions. The lighting may be substandard and you might not find a three-way mirror so in other words, you might not get the best look at how a garment fits you from all angles. And perhaps the biggest drawback many vintage sellers whether online or in-store will often have no returns policy or a very limited one. Taking all of these factors into consideration then, the required effort may ultimately result in you falling prey to the so-called this will do phenomenon. There will always be other vintage finds out there that will suit you better.

Description Mahogany handkerchief table circa 1745, really a swing leg table to lift the one folded leaf. Very rare and hard to find as most queen Anne gate leg tables lifted 2 opposite leaves, either oval or rectangle. These fell out of fashion for the more popular tilt top tables which are more common to find today.

Do you feel the cost of sewing machines, fabric, notions, and supplies is prohibitive to both novice and experienced sewing enthusiasts? Many of you have expressed this sentiment - the high cost of entry is a barrier of attracting new people into the sewing community. So what can we do to help break down this challenge for new sewists, and our own sewing projects? Don't forget to participate in this week's poll question linked above: Is sewing becoming too expensive for beginners? Here are some things I do personally to save a few dollars on my sewing addiction, er, hobby... - Wait to purchase fabric I like until it's on sale, or shop only in the sale/discount section - Look for fabric remnants at big box stores like JOANN Fabric & Craft Stores - Take advantage of all the coupons / coupon codes at fabric and craft stores - Shop my own existing fabric stash rather than buying new fabric every time I start a project - Procure fabric from more unconventional sources - bed sheets, thrift stores, table cloths, shower curtains, textiles I already own (old bed sheets can be used for muslin fabric) With sewing machines, look for floor models / show models at sewing machine dealers and events. You can also peruse Craigslist / garage sales / thrift stores for used sewing machines at better prices. Pay it forward by gifting supplies/notions/unused sewing machines to new sewing enthusiasts! Hi! I know this video is the same one I had before but I had to upload this video again... the audio in the old video was terrible so hopefully this shorter version and minus the horrible voiceover and just a relaxing video playing in the background will be a little better...Hope you enjoy this makeover, from traditional and ordinary to rustic and extraordinary. Knit Tie in Mottled Blue and Brown - https://gentl.mn/2PqAGB9 TRILBY Also referred to as a sloucher or slouch hat and named for the heroine of an 1894 novel by George Du Maurier. The trilby is sort of a little brother to the standard fedora. Like the fedora, the trilby also features a creased tapered crown with a front pinch but it's slightly more streamlined with a shorter snap brim which usually features a simple sewn edge and sometimes a very narrow band across the bottom of the crown. Originally associated primarily with the trench coat, the trilby evolved in the 1920s to a softer hat worn often in the English countryside and also at the racetrack. For these reasons, it's typically seen as a slightly more informal hat than the standard Fedora but not by much. In recent years, small trilbies with very narrow brims often printed in loud patterns across the hat and made from synthetic materials became a popular fashion item, however, these types of trilbies also quickly developed something of an unsavory reputation and brought the standard fedora down with them to a certain extent. However, if you stick to wearing a classically styled trilby, as I do for most of my own personal hats, you'll be able to overcome this stigma. Also, they do look particularly good on men with strong facial features so take that into consideration as well. HOMBURG Next to the top hat, the Homburg is the most formal of all men's hats. It's named from the German spa and resort town where it was first seen and also where it was popularized by King Edward the seventh when he was then still Prince of Wales, on vacation in the 1890s. Proper for both day and evening wear, the black or dark blue Homburg is worn with a dark business suit, stroller suit, or tuxedo depending on the occasion and also pairs well with a Chesterfield overcoat in winter in other various colors. Also, if you'd like to check out our guide on proper Black Tie attire as well as our guide on morning dress, you can consult those guides here. The Homburg is constructed with much more stiffness than the fedora and features a brim with a slight curl around the edge that's also typically faced in the same sort of ribbon that you'll find around the crown. Speaking of the crown, the homburg's crown is typically very tall and also features a center dent. A favorite hat of diplomats and politicians like Winston Churchill and also featured prominently in The Godfather film series, the Homburg typically looks best on old and more distinguished gentlemen as well as men with defined facial features. You can still wear a Homburg if you have a rounder face, however, just try to find one with a slightly lower crown and a bit of a wider brim to balance things out. PORK PIE Also called the English pastry hat, the pork pie got its name from its telescoped crown which features a slight lip around the upper edge of the crown and therefore looks similar to a traditional English meat pie. Normally featuring a snap brim, pork pies flourished among college students in the 1930s and were also popularized by Hollywood stars like Fred Astaire and Cary Grant. Pork pies are definitely on the more casual end of the spectrum as full brimmed hats go and they can tend to give the wearer a slightly squat appearance. As such, shorter men and men with rounder faces should exercise caution when wishing to wear a pork pie. Out of the styles that we covered today, which one do you think that you might be able to incorporate into your wardrobe first? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? The art of drinking like a gentleman: https://gentl.mn/drinking-101 SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Light Lavender Geranium Silk Boutonniere - https://gentl.mn/2NL28sx 2. Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Charcoal and Light Gray - https://gentl.mn/2CiNDd3 Whiskey Tasting Guide & How To Taste Whisky - https://gentl.mn/2AcPVsR The Hip Flask Guide - https://gentl.mn/2J15arF Drinking, and by that, I mean alcoholic beverages, can be a pleasure, a social expectation or tricky at times because it may damage your reputation. For example, the office holiday party almost always produces some gossip because some people to drink too much. The same goes for weddings or business dinners, you do not want to be the guy that ruins the evening for everyone or be responsible for not closing the deal. Being intoxicated always has an impact on how you behave and how you are perceived. The truth is, we are never at our best behavior when intoxicated and the potential of long-term regret outweighs the pleasure of one night on the town, To top it all off, everyone has a smartphone these days and they take photos and videos and they may end up getting to your employer, your mom, or to that uncle who had you in his will. So the main goal of drinking like a gentleman is to enjoy yourselves while still being civil and in full control of yourself. That being said, here are 8 practical tips that you can apply when you go out and drink. Most importantly, know your limit. Everyone has different reactions to the amount of alcohol they drink and it is up to you to know what is acceptable and what is too much. Two, stick with the classics. Most bartenders will be able to mix up a gin and tonic o an old-fashioned. Moreover, keep in mind, a gentleman drinks his beverage from a cup or a glass, not from the can or the bottle. Four, pace yourself. You are under no obligation to keep up with how much other people are drinking. Ideally, you can establish your own pace and one of the best ways to fend off questions for another drink is to simply have your glass half full. Five, be immune to peer pressure. Honestly, that is one of the hardest things for most men. Most people love to drink and enjoy doing so in a company and that may mean that they will bug you consistently. Six, do not push drinks on other people. You may be really into paying this round of tequila shots but not everyone might be into that. Seven, always treat the restaurant or bar staff with respect. I know that can be hard if you have been waiting in line for twenty minutes and you feel someone else has cut in line and gotten served ahead of you. Keep your composure. Last but not least, keep your hands to yourself. Drinking will usually relax even the most guarded person's view on interpersonal space but getting too close to someone or even touch them is a clear indicator that you have had way too much to drink. Also, a bonus tip, if you go to a bar to have a drink, don't sneak in your flask and drink from it. In conclusion, drinking like a gentleman means you should not behave in a way that makes you a pain in the ass to others around you. Very simple, isn't it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Wearing a morning coat is still popular for society weddings in Europe or in England specifically for any kind of wedding and it's mostly underutilized in the US yet, for horse races and other events, you can still wear it. If the dress code says formal day wear, it means the same thing so you wear a morning coat ensemble. Just like black tie and white tie, the morning coat dress code is very detail-oriented and I could spend an hour talking about every little detail. Here, I'll just provide you with the information in a nutshell. So here's a quick rundown. You want a morning coat that is cut away in the front. It's usually in black or in dark grey, kind of a light texture such as herringbone but plain is okay as well. In general, you have peak lapels or notched lapels and it is worn with striped trousers. Usually, they're in colors of black, charcoal, grey, and maybe a fleck of white. Often, they are referred to as cashmere stripe, they're the most popular. You could also go with solid pants if you want to or small patterns such as houndstooth. Just make sure there's enough contrast to the morning coat. With the morning coat, you never wear a belt, but always suspenders, that way everything stays up. You can either wear single-breasted waistcoats or double-breasted ones, I like double breasted ones because they go with the look of the open morning coat, they're a little more special, and that's exactly the right thing when you wear such a unique garment as a morning coat. Traditional colors of the waistcoat include dove gray or buff which is a form of chamois yellow however you can also go with maybe red or blue, it's really up to you and what style you want to set. It's very difficult to find these formal ascots however, it's really fun to wear it especially if you like a vintage look or the most traditional of all looks; and you can find a selection of them in our shop here. If you want to go with a necktie and a classic choice is a tie with silver and black tones, they are also called wedding ties, and again, we have a rich selection of them here. Of course, if you go with a tie, a regular turndown collar shirt with French cuffs is ideal. Button cuffs are always too informal so make sure you could wear cufflinks with it. Other than formal Ascot or a regular tie, you can also go with a bow tie. Again, the same kind of patterns in silver and black are good. If you want to be over-the-top loud, you can also go with something more colorful. For a full selection of wedding bow ties and regular bow ties, as well as regular ties and wedding ties, please check out our shop here. If you want to wear shoes, I suggest you go with plain black shoes such as black cap toe Oxfords, you can also go with Balmoral boots, and ideally, you want to have something with a contrasting insert, maybe in suede or fabric, or it can all be in black. If you want to have a very traditional look, you can also go with button boots made out of black leather and then a contrasting colored insert. You definitely want a white linen pocket square because very classic and dapper as well as a boutonniere either a fresh one or if you can't get that, you can find a selection of them in our shop. It's not obligatory to wear a hat anymore but if you go with a special dress code you might as well go all in and get a top hat. Keep in mind, long tails also require a top hat. A regular Fedora or a Homburg hat would be wrong. Chances are, you'll never see the dress code morning suit but if you do, it means that your waistcoat, your coat, as well as your pants, are made out of the same fabric. #notsponsored #morningdress #morningwear --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? for More go to https://gentl.mn/suit-differences-full-guide #suits #notsponsored #gentlemansgazette In this video, we highlight the key differences between a $100 dollar suit and a $1000 dollar suit and explain to you what you have to look for so you get the best value for your money. First, let's focus on the $100 dollar suit. Basically, it is a completely machine-made suit that is sewn together in 2-3 hours max and there is no handwork whatsoever. When it comes to suits, hand sewing is better because it is more flexible and it adapts to your body more easily and so especially for a jacket, you always want more handwork. A $100 dollar suit is made of very cheap fabric and cheap lining, that means, it's usually stretched polyester with nylon or other artificial fibers. Also, the raw materials may be cotton or wool that go into that fabric are of the lowest quality possible. It simply is stiffer, less comfortable, and you're more prone to sweating in it. A $100 suit has a glued interlining. So, what exactly is interlining and why do you use it? When you start out with fabric, you have a two-dimensional surface, in order to keep it in a three-dimensional shape, you need a second layer and the layer needs to be attached in a certain shape. For the $100 suit, this interlining is of very low quality and is glued to the fabric, that works in the beginning but it also acts as an insulator so you're much more likely to overheat and sweat. Another aspect of a $100 suit is the lack of attention to details. For example, the buttonholes are first sewn and then cut not the other way around that means you see some fraying. Also, the trimmings are usually low-quality, the buttons are plastic, the lining is polyester, and everything is made to remain low on the cost side but it also means low on the quality. The cut of a $100 suit can in theory, be as good as the on of a $1000 suit or a more expensive suit but in practice, that's really rarely the case. More often than not, $100 suits are either very fashion-forward, with very skinny lapels and you can only wear them a year max, before they go out of fashion or they're simply old-fashioned and the cut is boxy and bulky and simply not favorable. Another pet peeve of mine is the deep-cut armhole that restricts your movement and $100 suits usually have this 90% of all cases. In recent years, it has changed a little bit, sometimes they have adopted more modern cuts and they try to go with details such as working buttonholes, but in reality, they still use cheap buttonholes and it still looks cheap. The time that goes into a thousand dollar suit can range from 8 hours to 30 hours so that's obviously a huge difference and you will also be able to feel that. Generally, a thousand dollar suit show some amount of handwork. Sometimes, they have decorative elements like hand-sewn buttonholes that look really nice, they use a silk thread that is shiny or a cotton thread, they may have machine-made buttonholes but it looks nice. They may have an interlining that is sewn in hand or a collar which makes it softer and fit better and make you look better. The biggest advantage of a thousand dollar suit over a hundred dollar suit is the interlining and the construction. Where the $100 suit has a glued interlining, the $1000 suit has a half canvas or full canvas interlining. A half canvas is actually sewn to the fabric and it's usually made of materials such as horsehair or cotton or wool and that way, it's more breathable so you don't overheat. To save on cost, this form of interlining is only used on the upper part of your body such as your chest and it's glued at the bottom part of your jacket. Full canvas means that the interlining is sewn throughout your jacket and it's the best version you can get. At a thousand dollar price point, usually, these canvases are made by machine and not by hand. This little secret has helped me save a lot of money and to get quality suits. When I walk into a store and look at suits, the first thing I do is I flap up the collar and look at the stitching. If it is machine-sewn, I move on especially at a vintage store. If it's hand-sewn, I take the jacket off and take a closer look. I do this because a hand-sewn collar indicate a very high quality. If the collar is hand-sewn, chances are, it's a high-quality garment and it deserves a second look and you can use the hallmarks I described in this video to identify if you should buy it or not. ======================================= To never miss any of our videos again, sign up here for free: https://gentl.mn/1TyIECO Want to see more videos? PILOT CAPLESS Usually priced around $120-$150, it is an affordable pen with a design that is very unique. It came out in 1964 so it has some of the mid-century modern touch to it. It almost looks like a ballpoint pen because it has a retractable nib and so it's very handy for people who have to take notes quickly and don't have the time to remove or untwist the cap. Overall, the mechanics of the pen feel like quality, the design is well thought through, and the cap prevents the nib from drying out so you can just start writing once you hit that tip. 2. WATERMAN CARENE The pen which retails anywhere from $120 to $300 for the more all-metal versions. Waterman as a brand was very popular in the 1900s and vintage pens were very sought after. Lewis Edson Waterman invented the capillary feed fountain pen which is what most pens use today. Now generally, while modern Waterman fountain pens are not necessarily a great collector's item, this one is usually quite popular. First of all, it comes in a wide variety of designs in different colors and options. It features a pop-top cap and a hinged clip which both work quite well. I also really like to post the cap on the back of the fountain pen, it creates a nice balance and a solid weight. Compared to the Pilot capless, it's noticeably heavier. 3. LAMY 2000 This usually retails anywhere between $140-$170. To me, it looks like a durable understated mix between a Bauhaus mid-century modern design. It doesn't come out as a surprise, it originally came out in 1966 and back then, it was celebrated as a simplistic piece of art. The construction is made out of stainless steel and polycarbonate which is the same material you probably know from your lightweight suitcases. However, unlike the suitcase, the fountain pen has a matte texture which gives you a better grip and it also makes it less shiny and because it's not metal or lacquer, it feels warmer when you write with it. 4. SAILOR 1911 It comes in two different sizes and the large one, which we have here, is usually anywhere from 200 to 280 dollars. At first glance, it might look very timeless classic and understated to you, however, in the fountain pen world, it looks really like a knockoff Montblanc Meisterstuck. The screw on cap is tight and it posts well on the back of the pen. While the standard size just has a 14-karat nib, the large one has a 21 karat nib which is rather unusual but the higher the gold content, usually the softer and smoother the nib. The writing experience is very comfortable and smooth and the nib adds a little bit of bounce. 5. PILOT CUSTOM HERITAGE 823 First, it retails at about $270- $290, comes in a big box often with an inkwell. It also has a classic cigar inspired style but it's, in general, a little slimmer. Also, the body is made out of a semi-transparent resin which means you can actually see the mechanics on the inside. This one comes in a smoky acrylic tone. In Japan or at specialty retailers, you can also find different colors. Unlike all the other four contenders, this one has a vacuum filling mechanism which personally, I'm not a big fan of. So in conclusion, if you're ready to take the plunge and take your fountain pen game to the next level all these five contenders will be a noticeable step up from a Lamy Safari or a pilot metropolitan. So which of these five pens should you choose? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Use Windex to clean your patent leather shoes.Because of the mirror finish of the leather, you'll get a nice shine and you remove any scuffs. 00:48 Tie your shoelaces so they never come undone. Basically, you want your knot to be horizontal so whenever you walk, your knot becomes tighter and not looser. 01:06 Use ice cubes to get wrinkles out of dress shirts. You put your dryer on high, you throw in your shirt along with a handful of ice cubes. The steam that is generated from the ice cubes will release the wrinkles and you get a shirt that's basically wrinkle-free. 01:27 Keep your shirt collar stiff with a belt while travelling, First, you roll up your belt to the side of your shirt collar. Second, you simply insert it into the shirt collar. 01:48 Sharpen your cartridge razor blades on a pair of denim. Put one layer of denim on a flat surface such as a table, then take your cartridge razor and go against the cutting motion. 02:12 Open a wine bottle with shoelaces. Tie a nut in the shoelace just once, make sure it's thick enough, then take a pointy object, just a file or a knife, put it here, and then shove it through the cork into the bottle. Once it's at the bottom and it's come out, you simply take the shoelace and pull out the cork. 02:41 It's basically an un-hack because you use a clothes brush. It takes out the dust, it helps to prevent any moth bites, and you don't have to bring it to the dry cleaner that often. 03:16 Use your neck to figure out if pants will fit. All you do is you take the pair of pants by the waist, throw it around your neck and make sure that it touches at the end. 03:38 Use baby powder to remove oil stains. 03:55 No bottle opener? no problem! You can always open your beer with another bottle. 04:10 Use clear nail polish to prevent a button from coming off. Put a dab on the top of the button, over the thread so it won't come off and the next time you have the chance, you can simply replace it. 04:30 Use stale bread to clean suede shoes. The staler the bread, the better the result. Of course, you don't want anything moldy on your shoe. 04:49 Stretch tight shoes in the freezer. 05:08 Rub deodorant on your feet so you prevent chaffing and blisters and foot odor. 05:25 Remove red wine stains with white wine. 05:37 Use lemon juice to prevent sweat stains. 05:49 Use a paper clip as a collar stay. 06:02 Add salt to ice to cool things down instantly. 06:19 Use a hair straightener to iron your collar or other things. Especially when you're travelling. 06:37 Stuff socks in your shoes while travelling. 06:47 Use a pin or a safety pin on the back of your lapel. 06:55. Repurpose old pantyhose to polish your shoes. 07:16 Use Conditioner in Place of Shaving Cream. 07:20 Get rid of smelly shoes with lemon peel. 07:32 Use a urinal without any backsplash. 07:43 Protect your goods at the beach. 08:07 Use soda can tabs to use one hanger after another if you are out of space. 08:34 Put in a corkscrew at a slight angle, you get the cork out without any mess and issues. 08:52 Use a clothes pin to hold a nail while hammering . 09:05 Fill a 1qt Bag with 50ml Liquor Bottles for a Personal Cocktail Bar While Flying. 09:09 Use a zip lock bag to protect your cigars from drying out. 09:27 Pour cheap vodka through your water filter to make it more palatable. 09:50 Gargle whisky mixed with water to relieve a sore throat. 10:10 Use drip drop to prevent hangovers. 10:31 Use wine boxes to store your off-season shoes. if you have any life hacks, please get in touch with us here! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Want to stay updated? Red Knit Tie - https://gentl.mn/2DOCMZG 2. Pink and Grey OTC socks - https://gentl.mn/2ngeX3F An even better and faster alternative to the bathroom steam is to invest in a steamer. Usually, about 100 bucks will get you a long way and you will end up with something that produces a lot of steam and you could just steam your jacket when it hangs on a hanger. It has the advantage that you can dewrinkle specific areas such as the sleeve head, a sleeve, or the back and honestly, it works really really well. If you want to iron your jackets at home I strongly suggest to invest about 35 dollars into a sleeve board and into a tailor's ham, those two things will make it much easier to iron your jacket and you can actually iron any part of the jacket to achieve a really wonderful good proper result. If money is of no concern to you definitely invest in that vacuum table because it sucks away all the steam and it will give you better result without any waves and it's just also quicker to iron. First, I suggest you start with the body you can lay it over the tip of the ironing board similarly to a shirt carefully work on the front quarters to prevent your jacket from getting shiny it pays to have a pressing cloth which could be made of linen, maybe an old t-shirt that you cut, in general, want something that has no lint and no fuss. simply put it between the iron and the garment and pull the edges so you can see what's going on while you iron. The next step is to get a Teflon sole because it will prevent the fabric from getting shiny but you can see everything that's going on. Personally, I really much prefer to iron lapels on a tailor's ham and the sleeve board because you get that natural rounding that the lapel has on your body. a quality handmade jacket is always identifiable by the lapel roll, cheap suits or some that were pressed cheaply have very flat pressed lapel area and you should avoid that at all cost because it makes it look cheap and you don't want that. to increase the lapel roll you can even iron the lapel in the beginning part from the back which really helps to achieve this beautiful bespoke style roll. don't iron over the lapel line and that's folded because otherwise, it's stiff and flat. once you're done with that you could iron the back area of the jacket that's easily even on a regular iron board with a regular iron. just pay attention to the seams which is the center seam and try to not press hard on them but slightly on the side that way you won't see the pattern of the seams on the outside of the fabric. that's especially important with thinner or flimsy fabrics. the same is true when ironing, for example, the corners of your back vents. If you want a crisp result, you can use a clapper to get that nice crease. Next up it's time to iron sleeves and that's when a sleeve board comes in really really handy. rather than ironing two layers of fabric at the same time, I prefer to have one layer of fabric but a sleeve is usually never just straight. It always has a slight curve and you want to maintain the curve by ironing in that same fashion. mostly for as I know are straight and so it's a little challenge but you can do it by following the patterns on the jacket sleeve. if there's no pattern simply take that motion in a slight banana curve. At this point, you're basically done with your jacket. Ideally, you put it in a hanger or even better a mannequin so you can really look it over and see any areas that you might have missed or it just got wrinkles while you were ironing other parts. Last but not least you may not be happy with the wrinkles in the lining. Ideally, use your iron and hover over it with a steam and pull it at the same time, that will likely release most of the wrinkles. #notsponsored #howtoiron #ironingsuits --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? UPDATE ON DINING TABLE..... https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=VVIEi_Y9yS4 Chalk Paint Kitchen Dining Table with me. I wanted to get a new kitchen table. I kept seeing people say how easy chalk painting was. I figured I was going to get rid of table anyway. So if for any reason I made a disaster of this I wouldn't feel bad. I impressed myself. I've never done this and loved how it turned out. I'm not a professional but chalk painting looked so easy to do. No prep work or sanding needed. It dries quickly and doesn't have the strong paint smell. I loved how this project turned out. It went from old style to chic. I love the brightness. This will be my motivation to do my kitchen cabinets. I bought paint and brushes at home depot. I didn't like how the Clear Semi Gloss looked so I used Polycrylic Satin finish. 3 Coats of chalk paint 2 coats of satin finish water based. The fabric on chairs is from JoAnn fabrics store. I spent $20.00. Thanks for watching like and subscribe to see more videos like this I'll be doing an updated video soon. -Chalk paint http://amzn.to/2rLTOOB -Song A Himitsu
