The only way you will ever need to teach theme

07:00
More on my blog: http://guidingontheside.blogspot.com/ Broken down into the cognitive steps, students can determine theme with the support of modeling and collaboration. This video shows the strategy for introducing the concept (even though kids in 8th grade were exposed WHAT theme is in prior years, I never assume they were taught HOW to figure it out). After doing this strategy with passing the paper and creating multiple themes, it is simply a matter of reminding students throughout the school year that in order to determine theme you just need to follow these basic steps.

How to give the BEST PowerPoint presentation!

08:57
A bad PowerPoint presentation can be confusing, annoying, and boring. In this video, I'll give you my best tips for using PowerPoint in your presentations, whether they are for work or school. I'll talk about what makes a good presentation and what can ruin your presentation. You'll also learn how to use fonts, templates, and color to improve your slides. Do you know how much information to put on each slide? I'll answer that question and many more in this tutorial on using PowerPoint! Take a quiz on this video at http://www.engvid.com/how-to-give-the-best-powerpoint-presentation/ For more free presentation help, including advice for English learners gving presentations in English, go to http://www.presentationprep.com/ TRANSCRIPT Do you have to make presentations? Do you hate presentations? I like presentations, but one thing that you are probably maybe good at with presentations are making PowerPoint presentations, because you have visual aids to help you so you don't really have to talk as much, if you're nervous about talking. Presentation skills is something that you can work on. We have videos on www.engvid.com to help you with presentation skills. So, go and check those out for learning how to speak during presentations. But what we're going to focus on today is the visual aspect of presentations, so your PowerPoint things. Some things to do, and some things not to do. So, here we are, presentation skills. The first thing and one of the things that makes these presentations so fun are pictures. But we have to be careful. The templates that you have already included in your presentation software, they're boring. People use them all the time. So, I suggest you try and download some other pictures to make your presentation more interesting. And with that, make sure that on one slide you have one image. Make it interesting. Do not have a split screen. So, don't have two images on one slide. Do not have a collage, that's insane. A collage is many different small pictures on one screen. Even when I see a collage, there's a lot of collages coming out on Facebook now, and I'm like: "Too many pictures. Can't understand." Our brains just cannot comprehend all those pictures, especially when you're having the slide up for a short period of time. Don't make it like a photo album. Don't put millions and seven pictures, and... Keep it simple. Put a single image on each slide. Try and pick images that you actually like, and not too distracting. You don't want puppy dogs and things. Make something simple, but something that you like, and make sure it looks nice. The next one you have to worry about is the lettering. So, the lettering, you also might know this as the font. So, font and lettering are the same. One thing that you do not want to do is have really fancy or beautiful lettering. Simply... The reason is some people can't read when the letters are fancy, especially if you are doing presentations for people whose... Do not have English as their first language, if you take the letters and you write them even cursive, a lot of people have problems reading cursive. So, I suggest you use something more traditional. There's lots of very easy-to-read fonts you can get from your... Whatever word processing you use. So, make it simple, easy to read. Another problem that you might have is the script is too big or too small. So remember that when you're making your presentation, you're doing it probably on your laptop, or your desktop, or your iPad, or your phone, so the font or the lettering is going to be different than when you put it up on the projector. So if at all possible if you can, check it out before you do the presentation. Look at your... Hook up your laptop or whatever, and see if you can actually see it on the screen because the font is different. You might think that on your laptop it's a good size, but when it gets on the projection screen, it's tiny; or it takes up too much space and it's too big. Next up are the words or the text. So, there's been studies done on how many lines of text a human can absorb or understand, and any more than six, you've lost the people. So, try and keep on each slide one very simple image, with very traditional clear text, and put only two or three lines on each slide. Don't put bullet points. If you have more than six lines or if you have bullet points, again, we just... We just can't remember them all. We just lose focus. We have something called too much information, too much info, TMI. "Too much information" means that if you have more than two or three lines, we're just not getting it. Our brain can't... We just can't learn it like you want us to.

Input Output Tables Song | 4th Grade | Finding the Rule of A Function

03:04
🍎 You're cordially invited to come check out our growing library of award-winning math video animations at https://www.numberock.com 🍎 Thank you for watching our Input Output Tables Song Finding the Rule of A Function. »»-------------¤-------------««»»-------------¤-------------«« Q. What are input output tables? A. An input-output table is often used to generate a set of ordered pairs for a function , when the rule is known. Q. What grade levels do this video target? A. This video targets learning standards in 4th Grade. This video also targets standards in the UK from KS2 (Year 5). Q. Where did you guys come from? A. Numberock is a project that I, Mr. Hehn, began as a 5th Grade math teacher of 7 years. It came together after years of experimenting with my lessons trying to figure out the best way to help my students retain the math concepts they were learning. Q. Does Numberock drive real results in the classroom? A. I knew I found the secret sauce when not only were my students retaining the concepts longer, they were singing the songs outside of the classroom during recess and at home with their parents during dinnertime. The songs were so catchy, my students couldn't get the math songs out of their head! During testing, I often found my students humming the melodies in order to jostle their memory of a rule or problem solving process. As we've all experienced, there is something about the power of music that allows us to retain information easier and for longer periods of time. Without getting into the finer details of multi-sensory learning and how it often helps the students who most need the help, the power of a catchy song is hard to deny. Q. I love your songs. Where can I experience more of what NUMBEROCK has to offer? We have additional teaching resources that are always expanding over at https://www.numberock.com. For the low price of $4.95/month, premium members gain access to video-aligned activities like worksheets, printable posters/anchor charts, task cards, self-graded assessments, games, and more. Number Notes | Were currently working on creating exercises where students will be able to take notes artistically on printable templates featuring characters from the videos. Research has shown that this will help to integrate their artistic side side of the student's brain with the mathematical side of their brain which helps with long-term memory retention. Our own research has shown us that teacher's who use start using these templates love them! It seems to be a natural fit as we move beyond our unique auditory learning tools into visual learning tools, that when used in concert, cater to the different types of learners that you teach everyday. 🍎 Hope to see you at https://numberock.com! 🍎 Our Input Output Tables video is aligned with the following Common Core standards: 4.OA.C.5 - 4.OA.5 Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule "Add 3" and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.

4th Grade Virginia Regions Real Estate PowerPoint Presentation

04:29
4th grade students study the important landforms, cities, bodies of water, products and industries, and tourist attractions for all 5 Virginia regions. In doing so, students compare and contrast the regions to draw conclusions about what makes each region unique. 4th grade students were then challenged to apply what they learned to a real life situation where someone would need to know all of this information such as in Real Estate Different groups of students in each 4th grade class were given a common client. Their client had a list of information that included their job, hobbies, and housing preferences. Students then worked together on researching the various regions using both text and online websites to determine the best region and city for their client to live in. Then students researched Zillow in order to find a home for sale that met the housing preferences of their client. From this information students put together a PowerPoint Presentation, brochure, or portfolio that detailed the region, city, and home chosen by the group. During American Education week, students gave their presentations to their client, who chose between the presentations which region, city and home they liked best. This gave students a real life experience in the competition involved in being a realtor and the importance of being able to persuade their client to like the home they chose.

01:47
🍎 You're cordially invited to come check out our growing library of award-winning math video animations at https://www.numberock.com 🍎 Thank you for watching our Angles Song | Acute, Obtuse, & Right Angles »»-------------¤-------------««»»-------------¤-------------«« Q. Who do we need Angles? A. Angles are used a lot in daily life. When a carpenter makes furniture he uses angles, when an architect designs a house he uses angles, even an athlete will use angles to improve their performance. Q. What grade levels do this video target? A. This video targets learning standards in 3rd Grade and 4th Grade. This video also targets standards in the UK from KS2 (Year 4-5) Q. Coming Soon: 1. Self-Graded Assessments | These will soon be available for every Common Core and TEKS standard from 2nd-6th Grade so you'll be able to track and monitor student progress while your students complete standards-aligned quizzes that are integrated with the NUMBEROCK video they just watched. 2. 🍎 Our Angles video is aligned with the following Common Core standards: 4.MD (Geometric measurement: understand concepts of angle and measuring angles.)
