I'm Mario Ritter with the VOA Special English Economics Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish Today we continue our report on the group of chemical elements known as rare earth metals. These are mined from the earth and used to make technology from mobile phones to missiles. The United States once led the world in rare earths. Today China controls almost all production. Premier Wen Jiabao says China will not use these metals as a diplomatic weapon. But Japan says exports meant for that country have remained at Chinese ports as a result of a recent dispute. The United States stopped mining rare earths in two thousand two. Companies blamed environmental rules and low-priced imports from China. But now exploration is moving forward again. Edward Cowle is president and chief executive of a company called U.S. Rare Earths. He and his partners gained rights to some land in the American West about fifteen years ago. They had been interested in thorium -- a radioactive element that can fuel nuclear reactors but not be processed into weapons. Mr. Cowle later found that the land also held a lot of rare earth metals -- lately a subject of intense interest. The company has not started mining yet. It still has to get permits and work with other businesses to put operations in place. Ed Cowle says a lot of work remains. He says the earliest that they could open the mine would be in six to seven years. Another American company is Molycorp. Jim Sims, the public affairs director, says Molycorp has already begun producing three thousand tons of rare earths a year. That makes the United States the world's second largest producer, a distant second. Mr. Sims says Molycorp is the western hemisphere's only producer of rare earth products. The company says the largest reserves of rare earths outside of China are in its mine in Mountain Pass, California, and in the Mount Weld area of Australia. Jim Sims says Molycorp spends only about ten percent on mining. The big cost is in chemically separating the rare earths from the minerals that carry them. He says Molycorp raised about three hundred eighty million dollars when it sold stock to the public for the first time in July. The company aims to increase production to twenty thousand tons by two thousand twelve. It says that would more than meet current levels of demand in the United States. For VOA Special English, I'm Mario Ritter. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 15Oct2010)

The bitcoin vs. gold debate continues and according to mining mogul Rob McEwen, the latter is still the place investors should put their money in. “I don’t connect bitcoin and gold at all. They are serving two different purposes,” he told Kitco News at the Silver & Gold Summit in San Francisco. “Bitcoin is not transparent and it uses an enormous amount of power, contributing to global warming.” However, the McEwen Mining CEO still recognizes the cryptocurrency’s performance this year, which has taken markets by storm. “I like to see gold behave like bitcoin’s behaving,” he said. “But it looks like the dollar price of gold has bottomed and there’s small downside risk.” Don’t forget to sign up for Kitco News’ Weekly Roundup – comes out every Friday to recap the hottest stories & videos of the week: https://connect.kitco.com/subscription/newsletter.html Join the conversation @ The Kitco Forums and be part of the premier online community for precious metals investors: https://gold-forum.kitco.com/ -- Or join the conversation on social media: @KitcoNewsNOW on Twitter: https://twitter.com/kitconewsnow --- Kitco News on Facebook: http://facebook.com/kitconews --- Kitco News on Google+: http://google.com/+kitco --- Kitco News on StockTwits: http://stocktwits.com/kitconews

This video is about doors. Joe Posner investigates, with some help from 99% invisible, a wonderful podcast. Check them out here: http://www.99pi.org Subscribe to our channel here: http://goo.gl/0bsAjO There's a door on the 10th floor in the Vox Media office I hate so much. You probably know one of these too. But it's not our fault. And luckily, Roman Mars of 99% Invisible magically arrived in my cellphone to send me on a cross-country journey to find out the incredible surprises behind this common complaint: Don Norman started complaining about doors over 25 years ago. Doors shouldn't need instructions – the shape of them can guide you through just fine. So why do so many doors need instruction manuals right on the side of them? When most people complain about something, nothing happens. Don Norman is not most people – he's a psychologist and cognitive scientist. Don Norman thought about, and wrote about his complaints so incredibly thoroughly that he changed the world. 99% Invisible's Roman Mars helps tell the story. Attorney General William Barr is testifying before Congress Tuesday, as Washington waits for him to release special counsel Robert Mueller's report. Barr has said he hopes to release the full report by mid-April, after releasing a four-page summary of Mueller's report that Democrats deemed unsatisfactory. Barr, however, says he won't testify about the Mueller report. He's there to testify about the Justice Department's budget. Barr's prepared opening statement discusses just that -- budget justifications. Mr. Wagner is a Professional Geologist with 20 years of exploration and corporate development experience. Mr. Wagner spent the first 10 years of his career with two of Canada's largest and most successful exploration and mining companies (Noranda (now Xstrata) and Cominco (now Teck)) as a project geologist and manager in North and South America. Eimco Tractors: an overview by Richard Campbell Eimco (Eastern Iron and Machinery Co), was not a widely known name in the track tractor industry. The reason being that the period in which they manufactured and offered track tractors and loaders was quite brief, from 1952 through to 1965. However, the tractors they built were advanced for their day and did not resemble any other contemporary manufacturers machines. There was no mistaking an Eimco for anything else. Eimco’s tractor manufacturing facility was located in Salt Lake City, Utah and it was the sole production centre for track type tractors and loaders. At the beginning of tractor production, Eimco numbered all of their dozers with odd numbers (103, 105 etc) and the track loader range received even numbers, 106, 136 and so on. Later, this numbering system was changed so that it was not possible to identify an Eimco machine just by its designator, and one had to do a visual check! In this article we are having a look solely at their range of bulldozers As Eimco didn’t manufacture their own engines, they relied on General Motors and Cummins for powerplants, with the majority of their machines being powered by GM. A unique feature of most Eimco tractors was the use of two transmissions, (usually Allison), driven by a splitter box off the engine’s flywheel. This allowed both tracks to be powered all the time and did away with the need for large steering clutches and final drives. The machine could be put into a gradual turn by having one transmission in ‘hi’ range and the opposite side in ‘lo’, or a spot turn could be made by having one side in forward and the other in reverse. This was a similar arrangement to that used in the Euclid TC-12 (although the TC-12 also used two engines) but the concept actually preceded that of the big Euclid. Eimco’s first offering into the tractor market was the Model 105, a 15 ton machine powered by a 138 horsepower GM 4-71 diesel, which was introduced in late 1952. As mentioned previously, visually it was like no other track type tractor. For starters, the operator sat right up front behind a dash panel that was sloped sharply downwards. He also sat high, with a good view of the work area. The engine, transmission and cooling system were located behind the operator under a narrow and rakish bonnet. This allowed for a very compact drive train and excellent protection for the radiator. The entire under chassis was built from a U-shaped tub and was reinforced underneath to protect it from rocks and stumps, ensuring a very strong and rigid structure to mount the drive train. A cutout halfway along the machine accommodated the equalizer bar and each track was pivoted off its own final drive. The Model 105 was the longest-lived of all of Eimco’s bulldozers, lasting in production from 1952 through to 1962. However, total production of the Model 105 was only 1279 machines. Eimco did not manufacture its own attachments and purchased what it needed from outside suppliers, typically International-Harvester/Bucyrus-Erie, GarWood and Ateco, which were then re-branded. The first Model 105 machines offered for sale were typically equipped with a Bucyrus angle blade operated by an IH/Superior double drum cable control unit (PCU). While coming across an Eimco dozer would be something of a rarity among a contractor’s spread in the 1950s and 1960s, Eimco had a great deal of success supplying the US Military with equipment and it was in this market that the company had its best sales success. An awful lot of Eimco tractors and dozers were used in the Korean and Vietnam wars where they gained a bit of an unsavoury reputation as ‘mine hunters’, as running over a land mine pretty much a guaranteed trip to the hospital, if you survived the blast, due to the up front position of the operators compartment. Eimco’s next machine, the Model 103, was introduced in1958 and this was basically a scaled-down version of the Model 105 weighing only 9½ tons. It was also offered as a front end loader, known as the Model 106. Powered by a GM 4-53 diesel, the 103 had a top speed of almost 6mph. Manufactured up until 1960, Eimco sold 286 of its 103 model. http://goldstocktrades.com/blog One junior gold miner that I have been very bullish on for many months is outperforming the GDXJ benchmark by a wide margin. Integra Gold is up over 60% in 2015 alone outperforming the GDXJ by 50 percentage points. This is incredible relative strength and confirms my prediction that this is one of the premier junior gold mining companies. Integra just announced an updated resource which showed a major increase in the indicated category. Integra Gold (ICG.V or ICGQF) owns 100% of the Lamaque South Gold Project in Val-d’Or, Quebec and is currently drilling 50k meters with six diamond drills. If you know of a more active junior in a stable jurisdiction tell me. I can’t find another company as active as Integra. Integra is making a bullish golden crossover of the 50 and 200 day moving average and is hitting new six month highs past $.30 as investors see the significant increase in resource at the highest grade target. Integra is a unique junior as they own 100% of a project which has a low cap-ex and high grade returns. Management has experience operating gold mines in Val D’or and advancing this project into production. It is a dream team of Quebec miners with decades of experience mining in Val D’or. It appears that the technical team has shown wider zones at depth in the Triangle Zone increasing the overall grade and size of the resource. What is significant about this is that historically the most productive and profitable ore in the neighboring mines were in the lower zones. This year Integra will be extending a number of holes at depths below 900m with up to eight core rigs drilling. I believe the majors are beginning to recognize the growth potential of this high grade gold project in mining friendly Quebec as long as the major institutional funds. Integra recently appointed Charles Oliver to the board. Charles was the lead portfolio manager for Sprott and has decades of experience evaluating mining investments. He may be an excellent liaison for Integra to gain even further recognition among his network of financiers as they move toward production. Integra is making a bullish golden crossover of the 50 and 200 day and breaking new six month highs made in September of 2014. It could go into new 52 week highs at $.40 once drill results start being released. Disclosure: I own Integra and the company is a website sponsor.

http://www.nation.co.ke Governor Mvurya did not sign a mining agreement says Dan Kazungu. it is a mere propaganda from the opposition. Kalonzo Musyoka was the one who signed the mining agreement, by then the mining company known as Tiomin which has changed its name to Base Titanium says Dan Kazungu defending Mvurya’s involvement in the signing of the mining agreement. Kwale mines produces about 58% of the revenue in the mining sector in the entire country. CS Dan says the ministry will introduce Mineral Rights Funds (MRF) that will enable the local to benefit. The government is planning to have a mining learning institution in Voi, to enable youths manage the mining companies in the country through the knowledge they will have acquired.

Train like an athlete step by step - http://athleanx.com/x/athlete Subscribe to this channel here - http://bit.ly/2b0coMW The bench press is one of the most classic powerlifting lifts you can add to your chest workout. That said, it is one of the most complex simply because there are so many places in the lift that you can go wrong. In this video, I created a check list to give your helpful reference for each of the most important places in the lift that you will want to get right so you can increase your gains and keep your joints safe in the process. As a physical therapist, one of my biggest concerns will always be the long term safety of a movement as well as the risk to reward ratio of performing the lift. In the case of the bench press, this is one of the most fundamental power moves that all athletes and novice lifters should master. There are plenty of things that can go wrong however, and the joints like the shoulders, wrists, elbows and even your back can become vulnerable if you don’t get it right. The first thing you need to note is where you are going to be doing the bench press in the first place. Ideally, you’ll have access to a power rack that you can set up a bench in and have the appropriate pins in place to catch the bar should you fail. If doing it here, you will also want to put the clips on the ends of the bar for added safety. If you are training at home however, the clips might be best left off the bar just in case you get stuck under the bar and need a way to dump the weights to get out from under it. Next the alignment of the bar in the rack and the bench on the bar is crucial to setting up a good lift. Simple enough, but make sure that everything is centered before laying back on the bench. Next look up at the bar and ensure that your eyes are at the same height as the bar itself. This will set you up for a good liftoff from the rack. Along the same lines, you want to be sure that your bar holders are not too high or too low. If you arms are fully extended as you reach up for the bar then you are set too high and will have no leverage when it comes to lifting the bar out of its resting position. Next focus on the position of your feet and your chest before initiating the liftoff. Your feet need to be under your knees in order to be able to contract the glutes during the movement and add to your pushing power on the bench press. If they are too far out in front of you, much of your pushing power will be lost before you even begin. Likewise your chest must be arched. This establishes a stable base of your shoulder blades pushing down and into the bench, which will act as a counterforce for the bar as you press it in the opposite direction. Lift the bar and tighten the abs as you lower it down to the chest. The bar path is crtiical. Make sure it is traveling down and forward and not just straight down. This will be more easily accomplished by keeping your elbows tucked closer to your sides, about 75 degrees away. At the end of your set, fully straighten the elbows and then slowly allow the bar to travel backwards towards the catches. From here, lower the bar once it has engaged the rack and you’re done. A perfectly executed bench press set. Let the chest gains begin, and let the healthy shoulders and joints continue! Pick your program here - http://athleanx.com/x/my-workouts Subscribe to this channel here - http://bit.ly/2b0coMW The deadlift is one of the simplest exercises that is also one of the most often misperformed. In this video, I’m going to show you how to deadlift and make sure you get it right every rep by using a simple 7 step checklist. You’ll learn how and where to place your hands, feet and body in relation to the bar as well as how to lift the damn thing off the ground with the heaviest weights you can handle. Before ever deadlifting at all, it is a good idea to use a little bit of preparation. I show you a body prep and a movement prep to help grease the groove in both. The body prep is one that you can use quickly just to feel more loose prior to executing the deadlift. Place your feet wide against the inside of the plates and work to increase the mobility of your hips by addressing hamstring, pelvic and adductor tightnesses. The movement itself can be made much easier to visualize how to perform by going through a simple flow prior to lifting. Place your hands on your thighs and let them move down as you do nothing but hip hinge. Once the hands are at the level of the knees, stop hinging and simply let your knees bend to get your hands down to the bar. On the way up, you will be reversing the movement. Push only through your feet until your hands are at the level of your knees, at which point you will drive your hips forward to complete the lift. Once you feel loose and the movement is grooved, it is time to attack the deadlift with actual weight in your hands. Here you want to first be sure that your body is set up properly as it relates to the bar. Your feet should be hip width apart and the ties of your shoelaces should be visible beyond the bar when you look down at your feet. The hands should be just outside of your legs, with enough room to make sure that you aren’t scraping your arms against the outside of your legs on the way up and that you aren’t inadvertently bending your elbows when you press your knees outward on the ascent which can jeopardize the health of your biceps. Your grip can either be a double overhand, mixed grip or hook grip. The double overhand provides the least amount of stability but the most amount of muscle balance because of the uniformity of the hands and arms. The mixed grip can lead to imbalances between the muscles in the shoulder girdle if you don’t make sure to switch up between sets. The hook grip is definitely the most stabile but it is also the most uncomfortable and takes a lot of getting used to if you haven’t tried it before. The beginning of the lift must be thought of as a leg exercise to protect the integrity of your lower back. Push through your feet while keeping your hips down during the first part of the movement. Do this until the hands are at the level of the knee. At this point, the hips should fire forward as you drag the bar up your shins and now onto your thighs. Keep pulling your arms down to your sides which will help to keep the bar close and will engage the lats to ensure stability of the shoulder girdle throughout the lift. Reverse the movement back to the ground by first hinging at the hips until the bar is at the level of the knees and then simply bending the knees to get the bar back to the ground. When you want to learn how to do the deadlift it is important to have a few keys that you rely on and cue off of when performing it. I hope that these are very easy to both perform and visualize, making this the most helpful deadlifting tutorial that you have watched. http://www.VondranLegal.com This is just a quick video for those who wonder "SHOULD I GO TO LAW SCHOOL". These are just my two cents on a very important question that I think every potential law student should think about before making the MONUMENTAL DECISION to go get your JD, and to pass the bar and become a lawyer. To me, it was and is a lot of hard work, but I loved every minute of it, and now love helping people solve both simple and complex legal problems. This video provides what I think you should like to do if you are thinking of getting into this business. This video with my top six reasons to go to law school and become a lawyer. I think my wife's version was much funnier than mine. She said the top three reasons to become a lawyer are: 1. You think you are smarter than anybody else; 2. You love to argue just for the sake of arguing; 3. You think I am better than everyone. LOL. I hope she was not thinking of me when she came up with these. : ) At any rate, I think law is a FANTASTIC profession (as if you cannot tell by my posting over 450 videos on this channel), but it does require certain basic skills, aptitudes, and interests if you plan on doing this for a good number of years. You will have both rewards and challenges. It's not an easy profession and you have to be tough and smart. To me, I think you have to have a PASSION (or at least a STRONG INTEREST) in solving problems. Individuals and companies come to you with serious problems that need serious answers. And they pay you good money to get it right and to fight for them. You get to meet a lot of great people (from all walks of life and all backgrounds) and with our global economy and diversity in the United States the opportunities are endless. There are hundreds of different legal practice areas and all you need to do is find one that light the fire inside you. Find the problems you want to solve. The best part is, if you do it right you get to choose your practice area (you may need to master social media, but if you are watching my videos you probably "get it." But there is also a BIG economic decision to make that scares most people. No question. But you can do it, and assuming the "dollars and cents of it" works for you, then working to become a lawyer could be just the thing for you. But, don't do it without first performing your own personal due diligence. It is TOO BIG AN UNDERTAKING to take lightly and I always hate the stories where someone says they "went to law school for one year and dropped out." I don't think that is very helpful and no, one year of contracts law does not make you extra marketable. At any rate, I hope you like this video and hopefully it gives you some insights. I try to provide my general two cents whenever someone asks a question so don't be shy. I also encourage anyone thinking about a career in law school to go clerk for a law firm BEFORE you make the law school leap. See if you like it, see if you are any good at it. If you find yourself falling asleep while answering calls from potential clients, researching the law, writing briefs and motions, going to court, drafting contracts, negotiating settlement agreements, attending mediations, etc., then you are probably barking up the wrong tree. But for the people who really want this, and have the talent, you can have a great life in the law. I would say 60% of lawyers I meet like what they do, and the 40% are grumpy and want out (usually with no backup plan at all). For them, it's too bad. For good lawyers, its a great and noble profession and can be rewarding in many ways and gives you a chance to help shape future societies in a socially responsible kind of way. One final note, I created a Podcast called "The law school case that changed my life" (the shipwreck case - R. v. Dudley and Stephens). If you have 10 minutes you might want to give it a listen. https://bit.ly/2Gd4n40 Finally, you should also read my Top 10 Tips for Life Success no matter what career you chose: https://bit.ly/2IeQ6cH Best of luck whatever you chose to do. - Attorney Steve -

Resource Intelligence: Thanks for joining us, Brent. We're moving out of summer, but do you think we're moving out of the summer doldrums that have pretty much guided the junior resource sector since the beginning of the year? Brent Cook: I guess I should start this off by saying I really have no idea. Having said that, I do have opinions. It's clear that we've had some really tough economic times lately. It appears to me that we're back into a positive cycle for gold. I think that's going to give us a bit of a boost for the juniors in general. My suspicion, however, is that it is going to be short lived. There are a lot of companies out there that are just not viable anymore. I put out a piece last week in my newsletter borrowing data from John Kaiser. Somewhere in the order of 80% of the junior resource companies out there are going to be broke this year or next year unless they raise more money, and these companies are selling at less than 30 cents a share. You can see the dilution that we're facing in all these companies. There are just too many companies and not enough money to keep them viable. So, I think this is a short lived bump and if I had anything in my portfolio that I really didn't want, I'd be looking for any volume to get rid of it. Resource Intelligence: What about the other 20% of companies that aren't going broke this year? I couldn't agree more that there's a lot of crap out there but what about the companies that you're recommending, such as Mag Silver? Brent Cook: I don't mean to be negative on this sector. In fact, I think it's really, really positive. We're entering a period now where we're going to be seeing a lot of the low quality companies fall by the wayside. The cream of the crop is going to float to the top. There are going to be a lot of very good projects, companies, managements that we'll be able to buy at a relatively low price compared to a few years ago. If an investor or speculator is very focused and diligent as to what they're looking for and does all the background work on it, we're going to make a lot of money this year and into next year. Resource Intelligence: When do you see the market turning around? Brent Cook: Here is the problem as I see it: In the resource sector, we've had tonnes of money coming in. In the past two years in the Venture exchange alone we've had $10 billion pumped into this sector. Most of this money will soon be spent. Meanwhile, the exploration and mining companies almost across the board have under performed. They have not met expectations. Margins on producing companies have declined or at least not kept up with cost increases, so the money that flowed in has been burned basically. I don't see where new money is coming from. That's really the issue. Who's going to come in with the new money? Right now it seems to me we are all just picking each others pockets.

Buying Your Own Moon Base! Dragonfly Nymphs! Your Brain on Calories and Cognitive Dissonance! --- So You’d Like to Buy an Asteroid Property Law in Outer Space Businesses are already selling plots of land on the Moon and Mars, and some very rich people have invested in asteroid-mining companies. But—assuming you could actually get to these places—is it even legal to own extraterrestrial property? How would you stake a claim and navigate the Outer Space Treaty? And should you really buy moon rocks from mysterious Honduran military officers? Kevin Underhill writes Lowering the Bar, the leading legal-humor site on the web. He has a J.D. from Georgetown University and is a litigation partner in the San Francisco office of Shook, Hardy & Bacon. Most of his work you’d find pretty dull, but he did once represent a guy who had a moon rock that his dad got from Richard Nixon. Kevin is also the author of The Emergency Sasquatch Ordinance (2013), a book about weird laws. --- Enter the Dragon The Weird, Wild, Wonderful Life of Dragonfly Nymphs While dragonflies are known as big, loud, colorful creatures, the winged adult represents only a short period of a dragonfly’s life. Dragonfly nymphs live underwater, with a unique morphology and physiology highly adapted to their sometimes dangerous environment. Learn how dragonflies live, thrive and survive before they take to the air. Chris Beatty is an evolutionary ecologist with interests in adaptation, speciation and biogeography. To rid ourselves of the mental discomfort that comes with unhealthy habits, our minds come up with justifications like “I’m too busy, too stressed out…” The brain’s ability to reframe a subject is just one way cognitive dissonance can turn you into a calorie-consuming zombie. Learn the brain mechanisms behind cognitive dissonance and what you can do to game your brain into making more rational decisions. Copper noudles. KINDLY DONATED BY THEODOR GRAY. Description from his webpage (www.periodictable.com): (I will remove the description by request..) "Arizona Raspberry Copper Nodules/Nuggets. Really strange looking nodules. The distinction between nodules and nuggets is that nodules are formed by precipitation or other chemical action while nuggets are formed by mechanical action in the solid state. At least, I think that's the distinction implied by this letter from the US Geological Survey, which offered an opinion on these things back in 1978. The seller supplied a copy of an analysis indicating them to be 94.8% copper, but not saying what the rest was, other than that it wasn't palladium, platinum, or rhodium. I confirmed the analysis by x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy at the Center for Microanalysis of Materials, University of Illinois (partially supported by the U.S. Department of Energy under grant DEFG02-91-ER45439), getting a result of 94.9% copper, 5.1% iron. The iron explains the fact that they are slightly magnetic. And they certainly are quite curious and pretty, whether the story is 100% true or not, which as you will see is not particularly likely. According to the USGS letter, the core is some mixture of copper oxides, but clearly the bulk of it is metallic copper. By way of fact-checking, I looked up the name on the USGS letter, and (probably on account of the unusual name), got lucky with the first email address I tried. The response was great: Yes, I am the same person although doing very different things now . I have my own business and no longer work for the USGS. I definitely do remember those nuggets. We never saw anything like them again, to the best of my recollection. In subsequent years, I have become a consultant to the mining industry and traveled extensively in South America to different mines and have not seen anything like them there either. I have sent this out to a few of my copper industry friends and other contacts to see if they have I will let you know if I get a response Phoebe Hauff She's going to get some of the nuggets and show them around to her mining industry friends and of course I'll report anything that comes up. Coincidentally I later got an email on an unrelated subject from another person, Joe Taggart, who currently works at the USGS. It turns out he knew Phoebe when she worked there. He didn't see the nodules when they had them in 1978, but based on the pictures on my website and Phoebe's letter, he said they looked like they might be pseudomorphs, clusters of cuprite crystals which were then converted into copper metal by the action of a reducing solution. At that point I thought I knew the answer for sure: They were naturally occurring copper nodules! But that confidence lasted all of one day, because not long after the first email, I got another one from Joe saying, wait, wait, that can't be right. He'd thought about it some more and asked around with other experts in the field, and they said, no, those copper nodules are too dense to be pseudomorphs, they are a by-product of the electrowinning process of refining copper from copper ore. In fact, he said, a colleague has a similar nodule collected from just such an industrial operation. Well, that settles it, right? Since the natural-origins theory has a number of issues, if they have a similar nodule that is known to be artificial, that would be pretty good evidence that mine are artificial too. I was pretty well convinced that they were artificial at this point. But this new confidence was even shorter-lived. Just a couple of hours later he sent another email giving me permission to quote him on my website, but in this email he mentioned that the "similar" nodule they have has a flat side where the electrode was. Well, if my nodules had a flat side, or any visible point of attachment, I would never have had any doubt that they were electrolytic in nature! While the "natural origin" theory has problems, the "electrolytic" theory has problems too, like why the cuprite core, and how you can form a nodule electrolytically without any asymmetry or point of attachment. It's not that I can't imagine any way this could be done, it just seems unlikely. The next piece of evidence came in the form of a copper nodule on eBay, now a sample right here. It looks rather similar to these nodules except it's not as round, but it has no flat side and it's claimed to be from electrowinning. I think this pushes the balance of likelihood pretty strongly in the direction of an artificial origin for these nodules. Personally, I really don't care one way or the other, I just want to know for sure! They are very attractive and interesting objects regardless of whether they are natural or man-made."
