Inspired by the infamous 1927 murder trial of Ruth Snyder, Machinal is a gripping drama by American journalist and playwright Sophie Treadwell. Golden Globe nominee Rebecca Hall (The Town, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) stars in this sensational new production helmed by acclaimed British director Lyndsey Turner. It's America's Golden Age, a time of happiness, freedom and prosperity----or is it? For one young woman in the industrial, male-dominated world of the 1920s, life is nothing like she hoped it would be. Restless and unfulfilled in a passionless marriage and an unwanted motherhood, she finds her only joy in the form of an illicit love affair. But when reality sets in and she must return to her routine existence, she'll go to any lengths to regain her freedom. A groundbreaking work in the landscape of American theatre, Machinal is a riveting look at the danger that can come from a life unlived. Man of Aran is a 1934 British fictional documentary (ethnofiction) film directed by Robert J. Flaherty about life on the Aran Islands off the western coast of Ireland. It portrays characters living in premodern conditions, documenting their daily routines such as fishing off high cliffs, farming potatoes where there is little soil, and hunting for huge basking sharks to get liver oil for lamps. Some situations are fabricated, such as one scene in which the shark fishermen are almost lost at sea in a sudden gale. Additionally, the family members shown are not actually related, having been chosen from among the islanders for their photogenic qualities.

A short taster from the 2014 Decadent Theatre production of a Skull in Connemara. Pat Egan and Decadent Theatre present A Skull in Connemara by Martin McDonagh Author of In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths & the celebrated Leenane Trilogy. The Cast Includes Garrett Keogh, Maria McDermottroe, Patrick Ryan and Jarlath Tivnan For one week each autumn, Mick Dowd is hired to disinter the bones in certain sections of his local cemetery, making way for new arrivals. As the time approaches for him to dig up those of his own late wife, strange rumours regarding his involvement in her sudden death seven years earlier begin to resurface....nosey neighbours, troublesome teenagers and an ambitious Garda contribute to this macabre, funny play. Winner of the Evening Standard & George Devine Awards for Most Promising Playwright 1996. Martin McDonagh's brilliant black comedy, A Skull in Connemara is one of McDonaghs funniest plays. Nominated for an Olivier award in 1997 the play is guaranteed to make you laugh, squirm and avoid graveyards! "A deliciously grim fantasy in a staging as earthy and ethereal as a Tim Burton movie. Decadent astutely seek out work that is as crowd-pleasing as it is ambitious." The Irish Times 'McDonagh's writing is pitiless but compassionate; he casts a cold, hard but understanding eye on relationships made of mistrust, hesitation, resentment and malevolence' -- The Sunday Times "Flynn's assured, stylish production is less a revival than an illuminated restoration....Nothing encapsulates Decadent's imaginative production more than the transition -- courageous, brilliantly executed transition -- of MacCarthaigh's inspired set." Irish Theatre Magazine GARRETT KEOGH is cast as Mick Dowd. Garrett Trained at the Abbey Theatre School of Acting. As a member of the Abbey Company he performed in Juno and the Paycock, The Plough and the Stars, and premieres of I Do not Like Thee Dr Fell, and A Life. With Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan, Paula Meehan and others, he founded the Children's T Company, making and bringing theatre to schools, playgrounds, Dollymount Strand and the Dublin mountains. He worked on Broadway, the West End, Hong Kong, Wellington New Zealand, Tulsa Oklahoma, Kenmare, Ballythomas, Hartstown and Skibbereen. TV and film includes Veronica Guerin, A Love Divided, Angela's Ashes, Jack Taylor, Honeymoon For One, and Corp Agus Anam. As a writer he was awarded a Stewart Parker/BBC Radio Drama Award, a P. J. O'Connor Radio Drama Award, and an Oireachtas Script Theilifíse Award. One of the best known actors is MARIA McDERMOTTROE, who comes from a family long-associated with drama in the Northwest. Maria is recognisable from roles in a range of TV and film productions, as well as her appearances on stage. A glimpse of her work to date includes The Boxer, The Dead, Veronica Guerin, Killinaskully, and Glenroe. The cast also includes PATRICK RYAN who is well known for his roles in RTE's 'Trivia', 'Pure Mule' and 'Whistleblower'. And into that mix comes the energised raw talent of JARLATH TIVNAN. This untrained actor was spotted by the director in Dramsoc productions at NUIG. He was inspired to take to the stage by a friend and great actor (Brendan Gleeson, who Jarlath knew as his Granny taught Brendan Gleeson the fiddle). It received its first public reading in an early version at the Finborough Theatre, London, in 1995. A black comedy, it tells the tale of Katurian, a fiction writer living in a police state who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories, and their similarities to a number of bizarre child murders occurring in his town. The play received the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play, the 2004-5 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best New Foreign Play, and two Tony Awards for production. It was nominated for the 2004 Evening Standard Award for Best New Play. When he hears that his brother Michal (Jared Pickett) has confessed to the murders and implicated Katurian, he resigns himself to his execution but attempts to save his stories from destruction. The play includes both narrations and reenactments of several of Katurian's stories, most notably the autobiographical "The Writer and the Writer's Brother," which tells how Katurian developed his disturbed imagination by hearing the sounds of Michal being tortured by their parents.
