Deep Learning: Intelligence from Big Data Tue Sep 16, 2014 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm Stanford Graduate School of Business Knight Management Center – Cemex Auditorium 641 Knight Way, Stanford, CA A machine learning approach inspired by the human brain, Deep Learning is taking many industries by storm. Empowered by the latest generation of commodity computing, Deep Learning begins to derive significant value from Big Data. It has already radically improved the computer’s ability to recognize speech and identify objects in images, two fundamental hallmarks of human intelligence. Industry giants such as Google, Facebook, and Baidu have acquired most of the dominant players in this space to improve their product offerings. At the same time, startup entrepreneurs are creating a new paradigm, Intelligence as a Service, by providing APIs that democratize access to Deep Learning algorithms. Join us on September 16, 2014 to learn more about this exciting new technology and be introduced to some of the new application domains, the business models, and the key players in this emerging field. Drawbridge ICDM Cross-Device Connections Contest: How is this a Data Mining Problem?

07:40
At IEEE's International Conference on Data Mining in 2015, Drawbridge hosted a cross-device connections contest tasking participants with identifying a set of user connections across different devices without using common user handle information, for the purpose of proving that a technological, probabilistic approach to cross-device identity is a viable alternative to relying on deterministic user handle information. Here, our Senior Data Scientist explains the contest in more depth.

Arabic Dialect Data Mining Conference Presentation

01:55
by Qamar Zaman and Roque De Carvalho Chan Transcript: The situation within this scenario is to use the data sets of various Arabic dialects in order to classify them and separate them from one another. The various Arabic dialect texts are different and have small changes in between each of them which need to be classified separately. We first began with using the WEKA toolkit explorer to input the data files provided and run them through with the variations of classifiers and filters. We had decided to use the StringToWordVector filter as the default standard, we found that this was the best filter to be used in this particular case. We then searched for what would be the best classifiers to be used for this type of data set. We had found that after deciding from various classifier options used during our previous experiences with the WEKA toolkit, we had chosen to proceed and to test the training file on the following classifiers: J48, JRip, ZeroR, IBK, SMO and NaiveBayes. We had then ran and recorded the results as shown. The classifiers chosen had default settings as we found that changing the settings of the classifiers didn’t change the results so greatly and in many cases had actually reduced the accuracy. SMO being the fastest classifier, we had then decided that we should stick with it and found that through the modification of the filter StringToWordVector settings, it turns out that the accuracy increased of the data sets after running them alongside the default settings of SMO. This in effect lead to the results as shown and we came to the conclusion that overall the effective use of the tokenizer and normalizeDocLength settings within the filter StringToWordVector proved that a more accurate and effective result is possible of classifying various Arabic dialect texts.

2nd International Conference on Big Data Analysis and Data Mining

02:03
Data mining, the extraction of hidden predictive information from large databases, is a powerful new technology with great potential to help companies focus on the most important information in their data warehouses. Data mining tools predict future trends and behaviors, allowing businesses to make proactive, knowledge-driven decisions. The automated, prospective analyses offered by data mining move beyond the analyses of past events provided by retrospective tools typical of decision support systems. Data mining tools can answer business questions that traditionally were too time consuming to resolve. They scour databases for hidden patterns, finding predictive information that experts may miss because it lies outside their expectations.
