Gary Cox of the Kent Miners' Festival asks people to Dig Deep For the Miners once again

04:59
Gary Cox, Chairman of the Kent Miners' Festival, asked everyone to once again "dig deep for the miners" when he made the financial appeal at Brighton's afternoon of music, politics, memories and laughs to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1984/85 Miners' Strike. Gary spoke about the need for funding of youth jobs at the East Kent Railway. Later we also heard from Terry Harrison of the need for new instruments for the Betteshanger Colliery Band. The Kent Miners' Festival is closely connected with both groups and able to pass funds onto them as it wishes. All funds raised from the event were to be divided equally between the Kent Miners' Festival and the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign. You can find out more about the Kent Miners' Festival via http://www.kentminersfestival.org.uk/ and about the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign via http://otjc.org.uk/ This event was jointly hosted by Sussex LRC and Brighton, Hove & District Trades Council at the Friends' Meeting House, Brighton, on the afternoon of Saturday 8 March 2014.
